After lurking here for three to four years I have finally decided to join this forum because I want to participate in the discussions. I have been reluctant to join because I thought this community is mostly people in their teens and twenties. I am over fifty years old. Also I am British.
I self-diagnosed as being autistic/an Aspie in 2003 after reading stacks of stuff about autism and Asperger's syndrome, and personal accounts by auties and Aspies and finding that they more or less fit me. I don't believe that there is any real distinction between autism and AS. |

Hello Woodpeace! I'm 17 and from New Zealand. Welcome to the forums! (at last!)
It really doesn't matter what your age is. We have a member, paolo, from Spain I beleive. He might be older than you are! He's got quite the wisdom about him, which I like. _________________ I was sad when I found that she left
But then I found
That I could speak to her,
In a way
And sadness turned to comfort

First hi and welcome Woodpeace, I am also British but 4 years ago immigrated to New Zealand, I am 49 and only diagnosed last year.
I tend to agree with you that there is no real distinction between autism and AS, I have been diagnosed with Aspergers but prefer Aspie for this very reason. I feel there should be one spectrum and called some think like Autism conditions, we are all disadvantaged in one way or the other and all share some wonderful and interesting traits! _________________ "Believe in your self, we are who we are - as it can feel like an endless task trying to be someone else!" Hi Woodpeace
welcome to WP
Wow, 3 or 4 years is a long time to lurk! Glad that you've finally decided to join in here.
There are people from a variety of ages here and more people over the age of 30 than you may think. [we are not all in our teens and 20s lol]
Anyway, I hope you enjoy posting here. _________________ The hero is no braver than the ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer
