I haven't paid for a haircut in ten years.
I am going bald and I think it looks really ugly. I look like a laughing joke when I let my hair grow out. I don't want to look like one of those really vain balding guys growing out the last clump of hair on their heads in some sad attempt to hold on to their self image. SO I just shave it off.
And now that summer is near, I just shave my head as close as I can. I love having no hair. You wouldn't believe how much time it saves you in the shower! |

Since high school.
I don't like the feeling of hair; I go through periods where it doesn't bother me, but mostly, the hair "hurts" when it gets to a length where I can feel its weight. I also like the sensation of the razor running over my skin. I cannot have a beard for the same reason.
I cannot wear watches, rings; have tags on my clothes, etcetera, they all induce the same feeling. |

I think I know another interesting question:
How many girls here go bald?
Or only the guys? |

I used to shave it every summer, because I'd get overheated otherwise, and I finally figured out that shaving it worked.
Right now I'm trying getting it braided instead, because I like having the option of wearing my hair in a style where I can hide behind it, which requires keeping it long enough, but I also don't like having to take care of it, and pre-braided hair takes very little care. And braiding it exposes enough scalp to keep me cooler (my hair's really thick so having it just regular on my head in the summer makes heat exhaustion inevitable).
So I put that I do it once in awhile.
Edited to add: And I'm female, for reference. _________________ "We may seem in the gutter from up there where you are but maybe you don't know we still see the same stars." -Donna Williams |

Well, I'm a girl so...
I'm actually trying to grow my hair longer (but in layers). I had a really cute style a couple of years ago, but I wanted it shorter again last year (which was really good of me since we had the hottest summer in Indiana history). So now I'm trying to grow it back out. It's pretty long right now, but not where I want it to be. _________________ "We got the feet back!"- Ruth Cole, 'The Door in the Floor' |

I did a few times over a few years. Between 1990 and 94. ( People used to sing after me in the street... "It's been 7 hours and fifteen days...." ! ) Don't think I've done it since, though it has often been very very short. Apart from two/three occasions I have cut my own hair since 1987. Often obsessively.
At the moment I am managing to grow it a bit on top. Wild 80's style fringe. All the better to hide my aspergers forehead behind. I tried growing the whole lot out recently but finally accepted, to my chagrin, that my forehead will always look way too big if I don't have a fringe. My eyes and eyebrows are just too fierce or something.

I'd say yes. I started off with 2; moved to 1, "0", and then razor; the difference between razor and 2 doesn't feel any different to me other than the air feeling cooler when razored.
The heat has never bothered me, just the "discomfort" feeling; the same feeling I experience when wearing a shirt, I guess (along with the aforementioned watches, rings, and etcetera).
I wear the chain around my neck, and it constantly "hurts", but it's meaningful to me (plus it's a part of my routine). |

I've shaved it a few times with a razor, but don't really like the feel. So I just trim it on the lowest setting. _________________ The world under heaven, after a long period of division, tends to unite; after a long period of union, tends to divide. This has been so since antiquity. |

I never considered shaving - I'm a girl and it's totally inappropriate here. But I already cut my hair as short as is still womanly fashionable. It was too hot in the summers and very annoying to take care of.
Though all the girls already shot me nasty looks for that medium short length. I don't get why I have to have long hair to be 'a girl'. That's just ridiculous.
Now I'm trying to grow my hair again, about 15 to 20 centimetre past my shoulders. I wonder how long I will endure this in a warm summer? Unlike the other girls here, I'd want to wear my hair open. Seriously, all the girls here wear braids. It's as if wearing long hair open is inappropriate and too-sexy or something. |

Am have never had it shaved but would prefer it,cannot cope with shavers or hair clippers both for feel and noise reasons,
find the feel of scissors also bad but able to tolerate it for some amount of time, only ever get it cut when the feel of hair on skin is too much.
Am have been working up strength to have a hair cut for ages and this thread has given thought to go as short as possible.
Does anyone know if scissors be able to get close enough,as close as a shave would?
Sora,
yes,it is a bad target for chavs, wish people would stop trying to control other peoples' choices, having short hair on a female does not make them gay or male,it's just a hair cut. _________________ LFAutie, slave to cats-dribble baths given daily by GFB.

Scissors could get close like clippers do on the lowest setting, but not as close as a shave with razor blades would. _________________ The world under heaven, after a long period of division, tends to unite; after a long period of union, tends to divide. This has been so since antiquity. |
