| On May 6, 1954, Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile in a time of 3:59.4. He was a 25 year old medical student at the time, six weeks away from getting his medical degree. He became a neurologist and is involved in planning for the 2012 London Olympic Games. I would really like to go there and meet him. He is an inspiration to me. |

In the same year his record was broke by John Landy with 3:58:0. The current record belongs to Hicham El Guerrouj of Morocco in 1999 with the time of 3:43:13. The guy does deserved credit for being the first to do a mile in under 4 mins.

I was running the mile in high school at the time. My best time while I competed was 4:24:+ Roger was an inspiration to me, also.
