Do any of the women here have androphobia (fear of men)?

Does androphobia stem from assault trauma, I wonder?

How do you know if it's a true phobia rather than just normal fear of men?

I have a hunch. It doesn't seem likely for a female's fear of men to exist w/o cause.

I don't think that fear of men *is* normal. Something should happen to cause this. I don't think you come out of the womb, or even later on, just randomly start to fear men.

Why not? Males are larger, more aggressive, and don't communicate as well, so as a group they're more intimidating. The average citizen is much more nervous around groups of young adult males than around groups of young adult females - most people see them as more dangerous and unpredictable.

When you get to know someone, then they seem less alarming, safer to be with.

Yes, of course, if you grow up frightened of your father (many people do, or at least used to, and you don't have to be abused in a criminal sense to be afraid of him) you're likely to be more nervous around other males, too. And if you have good relationships with your father and brothers that's going to help. But in general males are more intimidating, no?

A female rat who has just given birth will go all ga-ga over baby rats and nurture them right away.

A female rat who has not given birth will grumble when they put baby rats in the cage with her but will get around to taking care of them after grumbling for a while.

A male rat will kill the baby rats the first trial or two, then will shift into grumbling mode and will eventually soften up enough to nurture them. Not sure how many sets of baby rats die or are killed before he gets to that point.

Hormones, I think.

Also, you can't keep male rats in a cage together, because they'll fight until there's only one left. Kind of like Highlander, I guess. Razz You can keep female rats together, and you can keep them as mixed groups, but not males together.

I know, these are rats, not primates. But still.

Enough rat stories. I think.

Ratty Dread topic

Too bad the baby rats did not have fear of males. Sad

I hope the researchers do not keep repeating this experiment. Point's been made. Shocked
