That's it.

Our cat D. was put to sleep this morning, as of 17th April.

After managing with diabetes for a few months, D. suddenly had extremely low blood sugar levels one morning. She was already out and near death when the vet rescued her. We had her home with us, being sure she'd recover. D. was drowsy and lame after the 'attack' though, she would barely eat, drink or move. Nevertheless, we thought that she was progressing slowly. She ate more and got more active over the course of a few days.

Since yesterday night she suddenly got worse again. She'd not eat, drink or move. While I was writing an exam today, my mother brought D. to the vet. The vet then told her D.'s kidney were beyond repair. The only option would be to put her to sleep.

D. wasn't in pain and was put to sleep gently nodding off.

I'm soo sorry for her. She was just 9 years old. She deserved to live at least another 6 years. At least!

She was a diva, didn't like men, was really pretty, really stubborn and did I mention that she didn't like men?

I'm still kinda waiting that she'd there again in the morning. Which is totally irrational.

I can't help it. We weren't best buddies, just lived together, but she sure just didn't deserve to die!

Sorry about your loss. Misty was the sweetest cat, we saved her from a horrible family and she was very ill as a kitten, fed rotten milk and had really bad pink eye. We took her home and she was wonderful, got along with the other cats (except shellie, who doesn't get along with anyone)

She got cancer at 4. FOUR!

We had to put her to sleep. Sad I cried for a week.

Sorry to hear that.

I find it quite interesting how attached people can be to other animals.

You have my condolences. I'm very sorry.

I know how you feel, especially the "waiting for her to come back even though it's irrational" part, because my dog had to be put to sleep around this time last year.

I'm sorry to hear about that. It's sad when there is nothing that can be done for a pet. Sad

My best friend/cat died a few months ago and it was really hard. He had all these places he used to sleep and seeing them without him was like looking into a blackhole. THere is only one human that would leave me with such an empty feeling. I still miss him horribly(they each have such destinctive personalitites).

We did get another cat and my BF loves him a lot...I like him but still notice how "not Buddha"(He is the cat in my avatar) he is even though they look a bit alike. I buried Buddha in our backyard and feel a little better having him close.

Sorry for your loss Crying or Very sad

I'm very sorry for your loss. My cat had to be put to sleep a few years ago, so I know how hard it is. I fell into a depression that lasted several months. He also had diabetes and had probably been sick for awhile but we didn't notice the signs. We thought we would be giving him insulin injections for the rest of his life, but that he would be fine. Instead, his condition worsened in the course of a few days and there was nothing more that could be done. He was also put to sleep painlessly in an incubator while our family pet him and told him over and over how much we loved him. It was the only time I've seen my dad sobbing.

Please know that you're not alone and the pain will subside. Don't listen to people who say "it's just a cat" or try to make you think you're silly for mourning. It is a real loss and should be respected as such. My pain began to heal when I considered getting a kitten. At first I felt guilty, like I was disrespecting my old cat, but I realized that's not the case. He would want me to be happy. Having another cat (or two) in your life, once you are past the initial bereavement stage, can really add some joy to your life.

*hugs*
My kitty was ran over a year ago, so I get what you're going through.

I wish you all the best, and just know she's probably happy wherever she is.

at least it happened before she got so bad she was profoundly suffering with pain,at least no more blood tests, vets visits and no more injections for her.
