Just wondering if you could help me out on this:
Being an Aspie, it seems that the best places for me to make friends/acquaintences (sp) or otherwise socialize are structured settings. Hence, my best "socializing" times were in high school and (to a lesser extent) college, where I had to see the same people day in and day out, and interact with them regularly. (Oh, how my social life took a downturn when my college friends stopped eating at the cafeteria and at in their own residences. ) A somewhat similar thing was work, as I got to know my small number of co-workers. Unfortunately, I'm jobless at the moment, and think it would be best that I've got somewhere to socialize/make friends before that. I've tried joining a group at church, but that's turned out like "I don't know what to make of them, they don't know what to make of me," thing.
So, any group/place where I could socialize with the same people on a regular basis? Any help here? (Am I making coherent sense? ) |

Finding the right place to socialize can be a big problem. I wouldn't give up on the church angle just yet. If you're inclined toward a particular denomination, is there another congregation nearby you could try? Some churches have both traditional and contemporary services, the latter may attract more accepting people. If you're open to the idea, you might also consider another denomination. The United Church of Christ (Congregational) is very tolerant, as a rule, as are the Unitarians. Best of luck in your quest. Ross |

Join a club for something that your interested in.
That way, when you meet people at the club, you'll find it easier to think of something to talk about because you'll have something in common with these people. _________________ The hero is no braver than the ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer

I found autocrossing to be my new "social safe spot"
Activities/clubs that interest you are good, but you've got to also hit the right group of people ... I need a group that opens up and lets me in without overwhelming you but not one that doesn't approach me because I suck at starting conversations... _________________ "Nothing that you do is right, nothing that you say makes any sense tonight, everything you feel is wrong, everything you see is just an illusion. | I found a very good way to make friends is by playing an MMO. For me it was Star Wars Galaxies. At first I was shy, even on the computer game. But all you gotta do is type, you don't have to worry about all those other social issues with face-to-face conversation. After I met my friends, it went from typing to eachother to getting a teamspeak server so we can talk verbally with our microphones. Now we (a group of friends of about 5-7) hang out nearly every day. |
