How are they going to count a group of people who are largely undiagnosed?

That was a very short article. It revealed next to nothing about what will actually be done.
Based on the information provided, I say at least someone is recognizing that we exist, but what if this "official count" produces misleadingly low numbers? A lot of us are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed or choose not to disclose our diagnoses or live lives of seclusion . . . there are a lot of ways in which adults on the spectrum could "slip through the cracks". And then these distorted stats could be used to fuel the "autism epidemic" hysteria, and prevent the harder-to-find adults from getting access to services (if services are designed for the numbers revealed by the count). |
