This is something my boyfriend told me. He says us aspies get very upset about something because that was what Laine Holliday Willey said in her book.
Last fall when my aunt told me she and her uncle were going to start renovating their house soon so I better start looking for an apartment, I got real upset because it brought stress on me. I wasn't expecting I'd be forced to move out and I wasn't planning to move out that year until I got a laptop. But my boyfriend helped calm me down and I decided no laptop and I can always use a computer at a library or something. So we both did apartment searching on the internet for the area.

When I got a letter from the state of oregon asking for a copy of my federal taxes, I got real upset after I couldn't get a hold of them. I remember starting a thread about getting upset for no reason when I told that story.

I don't know if it's part of AS to get very upset easily.

I always thought getting very upset was a human thing.

Those things would upset anyone, NT or aspie. I think you are right about that being a human thing. But I think we aspies may still get upset over smaller things than that, things we shouldn't be upset over.

It is a tolerance thing.

I find myself less tolerant of things that do not need to be done or are a burden on my day to day life.

I do not know if it is an AS thing but I do know it is a selfish thing and that is very AS. Unless it is directly controlled by me it does not hold 1/2 the relevance...

WOW! You explained me to a TEE!!! My sister thought I had Asperger's and the more I hear/read about it the more I'm 99.99% positive! I tend to cry easier mainly because my past behavior was that of NOT worrying over my behavior upsetting people and after I was suspended from college I went into HYPER mode and every little thing upsets me now. (example Oh my God I smiled at you what if you yell at me!!! Before I wouldn't care if you yelled at me.) Sad I'm very emotionally weak now. Sad I think fixing the suspension issue will help me alot though if I ever get the chance. Sad

Well my teacher thought I had psychological issues and needed an evaluation I went to tell my friend and he suggested violent things he then went to the teacher and told her then I was suspended for a year. A good example would be the following.

Lets say you have a husband and you hear from someone that he said he hates you you rant to your friend Julie and suggests (I'll make it simple) that you and her will beat him up. (NOTE JULIE SUGGESTS IT YOU ARE GOING ALONG WITH IT!!!) Julie tells your husband and then now he's leaving you. Sad IMO your friends should be emotional support in an upest ranting moment instead my friend suggested something violent which we both agreed as a joke. Sadly though he went to the teacher and I was suspended. Smile Sadly she was my favorite teacher (who happen to be a Psychologist) Sad her statement was and I'll quote as best as possible.

"I feel she has crossed the teacher student line and needs a Psychological Evaluation before returning to campus." This shocked me since I would frequently visit her office just to chat and at the time she didn't come off as having behavior issues with me.
Sad I'd give anything to tell her I'm sorry and my side of the story. Smile

(I think her comment was due to me obssessively e-mailing her jokes and coming to her office every day) I sadly latch on to people and THEY become an obsession. Sad

I can get upset easy, but only if it's something done by a person I hate with a passion, IE, my family. A bunch of ignorant, arrogant retards who rather talk behind someone's back than talk to their face. They move anything of mine a foot, I get angry. But ONLY with them.

If I am insulted, in a non joking way by a person I like, I don't get upset. I take it as information to build myself upon. If someone (other than my family) inhibits my way of life without knowing it, I don't get mad, they don't know. I don't get road rage. I don't get into fights. Heck, I took a full fledged punch to the face before and did NOTHING, sure I got mad a few minutes later (from the pain that THEN started to appear in my face, besides, the punch was for NO reason).

I have a friend who is NOT an aspie, and he's a bit of a psychopathic type (watches horror movies but rather do worse in real life to anyone who walks in front of him). Meanwhile I'm incredibly docile, telling him, quite directly, he's a psychopath and needs to calm down. He gets mad easily, and makes me notice, I don't.

So no, aspies do NOT get upset real easy. PEOPLE get upset real easy. Idiots just like labeling entire groups based on a single theory they develope from one person, even if what they know about the person is true or false.

I dunno. I know I get upset easily. It only feels like a "problem" now because my mom finally came out and told me she thinks I have Asperger's (ignorance is bliss = totally agree), but mostly I get mad at my mom anyway. Now that I think of it, I don't really get any "anger issues" outside my family environment. Wow! I never thought of it that way! Thanks for posting that! You've totally helped me realize something! For months and months now I've been convincing myself that I must have anger issues, but now I don't think that I do! YAY!!! Thank you!
^^ Peace.

No wait... I actually do get a bit angry about weird things, but I notice it's more pronounced a) in the morning (I'm nocturnal) and b) when I'm with my family, so...
YAY I DON'T HAVE ANGER ISSUES!

"Little" things like these used to trigger an anxiety attack. Except that I didn't know it was an anxiety attack at the time and that in turn would lead to a depressive episode/s. Funny how my shirnk didn't figure out the AS bit then when I was seeing him for anti-depressants. Now that I recognise what triggers my anxiety attacks plus having meds on standby it helps.

I get upset over small things all the time, but I can usually tolerate it and suppress my feelings to try to look normal.
Every once in while I just burst into tears though. shrug

Unfortunately, I do become extremely pissed over seemingly trifling matters.

Zelda, you were dealt with inappropriately. I'm not really sure what else to add other than that universities are poorly equipped in dealing with mental health issues despite their pretension to being bastions of innovation and forward thinking.
