QFT.

Threads like this disgust me. There are so many threads on WP where people want help from the majority NT population (compassion, education, understanding, government programs, etc). How are our bretheren that need help from the NTs going to get it if we're throwing around ridiculous comparisons of NTs to Hitler?

I doubt there is a government-sponsored campaign to demonize Aspies through bad publicity, especially considering most people have never heard of Asperger's. Those who have don't usually have extremely negative opinions of it either.

Does Aspies know how to fly F-22 and drive a Abram tank? Laughing

I don't think I would handle driving a tank since I might run over cars. That would make this as a possible cause of death. Autism Speak would called it "under the influences of Autism".

I am just kidding. I like the ALA idea.

I agree. Comparison to Hitler is a pointless argument.

I do agree that NT's generally have a fear of autism (just look at all those soccer moms saying that autism is destroying their families). However, the fear is based on the general NT fear in whatever they don't understand. In my experience, the more an NT learns about autism in general and the strengths it can provide, the more likely an NT will accept an autistic as he is. All of my friends know full well that I am an aspie, and are perfectly okay with it. In addition, I work at a church, where most of the people there also know about my condition (I'm fairly open about being an aspie, and am not ashamed by it), and again, they are not afraid of me or see me as some kind of "monster"...

Organizations like Autism Spoken For prey upon such fears in mothers, which is why they become so powerful. My own mother, herself an aspie, didn't give in to such fears... while she nominally supports stuff like genetic research that Autism Spoken For carries out (a point I've argued with her about multiple times), she didn't believe all the hyperbole that they were talking about (the whole thimerosol thing, for example), and instead of trying to put me through dangerous experimental "therapies" like gfcf and chelation, instead found a physician that knew specifically about autism (such a person was relatively rare in 1988), and got me some things that I needed. Instead of wasting all her time casting blame on some obscure theory, she actually put effort into raising me (and my lfa brother) up instead...

*ahem* the word "rebellion"... does this not conjure up images of X-wings and giant spherical palnet-killing space stations???

But that's ok, not everyone's a complete nerd about that crap as I am...

Code Geass? Or was that a separate allusion?

Code Geass was a separate allusion. It's an anime that is now airing in the States. Most of the plot concerns a rebellion in Area 11 (Namely, British-occupied Japan) by the Japanese against the Britannian (British) aristocracy and their army. Pretty much the same overlying plotline as Star Wars, give or take a few subplots.

Which proves I am both otaku and nerd...

Speaking of Autism Speaks (excuse the pun), I was in the Health Sciences room at my HS today for a test for another class, and I saw a student-made poster on the wall advocating Autism Speaks. I will credit it, it did say (quote) "Autism cannot be cured, but it can be treated with early intervention" (endquote) but it did point to the AS website. I was half tempted to burn it, only I didn't have a lighter (this is school we're talking about). But my point is, for an organization that claims to speak for autistics but doesn't take the autistic's personal opinion into account, they have too much influence over how autism is thought of by our government and the public. The need to be discredited, and soon. The question is, how to do it...

That is a common human fear: it is not limited to NTs.

Probably more common in Aspies and Auties actually. We do tend to cling to our routines and resist change. That seems indicative of a rather extreme fear of new experiences and the unknown.

I suspect that any fear has less to do with fear of aspies' powers and more to do with the potential for aspies to remind NTs that their children could have Asperger's. Normalcy is a comforting thought, pipe dream though it may be, and the common cultural mythos of families has little room for children with Asperger's.

People here say that NT's are not afraid of us need to think this over. Most NT's are decent people but believe what they hear on TV. Some of the propaganda coming from such organizations as Autism Speaks is horrible. No, I am not advocating a war against NT's because we need them as much as they need us. What I so recommend is that people like us who are social enough to go out and educate the public. I am profoundly autistic, yet I present as NT much of the time, and most people are amazed when they find out. We need more organizations like Wrong Planet and local organizations such as http://www.autismeducationcenter.net . By educating the NT community, we will gain allies in case certain organizations do actually encourage the government to persecute us.

The only thing I'd like to say is that NTs really need to get their facts straight, we aspies may have some better abilities but I could not live in a world without NTs to be honest, some of them are my friends even if I only give a crap about those who I've met, But I will say that the media are portraying us badly and also a world would not survive without NTs, without Aspies i'm afraid to say that they most likely could, as although we may have had great and brilliant geniuses over the 750,000 years of modern man, social skills are the key to reproduction and work and life in general, though I would rather avoid killing as no-one has the right to take lives unless they have the power to give them also, which sadly with the lack of the overly imaginative gods and deities means no-one in the entire universe has the right to kill, also alot of parent would have their unborn fetuses aborted if they were autistic because of lack of public knoledge

I didn't mean to imply that Autism Speaks is all bad. They do do some good work. I learned about Wrong Planet through the Autism Speaks community. I think the intention behind portraying us as "empty shells" is solely to generate revenue. With that said, I think they do us a disservice in this regard. They also include information for various treatments some of which are helpful. If Autism Speaks would decide to include autistic people on its policy making boards, it would gain more trust from autistic people.
