I have the PS2 version and its alright with me. DS one looks neat though. _________________ "Just remember, their fans think their players are supermen. Well we're the kryptonite, and we're gonna win." Jim Larranaga

I doubt it can be compared to the home console versions. To me, it seems more like an attempt to milk the franchise for what it's worth on the handhelds. _________________ WP doesn't have a working first amendment.

I doubt it can be compared to the home console versions.
I wasn't interested in it at first, I thought it was just going to be a stripped back port of GH3, but the majority of the songs are going to be exclusive to the DS.
But like I said, most of the songs announced are lame...only two of the fifteen announced songs appeal to me. I'm hoping the other ten songs are going to be a huge surprise of killer jams, but...I won't hold my breath _________________ How wonderful to be so profound.
Well, didn't think I would get it, but I did...and it's a lot better than I thought it would be. Even some of the songs I thought were lame aren't half bad...only song I really can't stand is Smash Mouth - All Star Some of the other songs are kind of meh (like What I Want), but not unbearable like All Star.
At least there's only one really awful song, as opposed to GH3 which had Kool Thing and Anarchy in the UK
The Guitar Grip really cramps up your hand, but then again, so did the console version's controller. I'm starting to adjust to it...especially the fact that trying to use only three fingers is nearly impossible. The buttons are a lot smaller than the real thing, but I just pretend I'm playing higher on the neck (like maybe the 12th fret or so).
Oh yes, the Guitar Grip comes out sometimes, and you have to restart your DS =/ I've only had it happen like two times, I try to make sure it's pressed in firmly after every song or so.
The adapter that comes with it to support the old fat DSes is genius. I thought it would just be some cheap snap-on thing, but you actually unscrew the Lite adapter and then screw this other one on there, so it's nice and secure. Not very convenient if you want to quickly switch over to a Lite, but I suppose that's a situation that won't happen very often anyway.
The custom skins are genius too. Just open up the transparent plastic faceplate, take out the plastic sheet, and trace it and make your own if you want. I can see the Internet bustling with custom ones to print out and cut. Wish they had this for the Les Paul controllers, instead of those expensive (and ugly) plastic replacement faceplates.
Love the touch screen controls. If it had resistance, it'd be just like playing the real thing. Of course, in the grand tradition of Guitar Hero, it's easy to accidentally use Star Power. Oh well.
Major major plus...the original recording of Pride and Joy, and not that awful cover from GH3 \m/
Guitar Duels are really cool. Not all that different from the battle mode of GH3, but whereas the battle items in GH3 were boring and frustrating, the ones in this game are actually fun and require a little bit of strategy. Plus, you get to do the whole song, instead of just switching back and forth, and you can do it with any song, against computer opponents (and you unlock stuff along the way). Only downside is you don't get to watch your opponent screw up.
Still no single player bass love =(
The "ROCK OUT" into the mic was seriously overhyped...I don't know why anyone would want to do that when it's so much easier to just strum over the star guage. You can turn it off in the options.
The pick stylus is cool, has a nice groove to fit your fingers into, but they should've put nubs or some other sort of grip on it...I find it slipping way too often. Can't decide if I like the strap or not yet...sometimes I have it on, sometimes I take it off...can't figure out which is more comfortable, but in this weather, my hand definitely gets a little bit sweaty while wearing it.
Oh, the game doesn't come in a standard case =/ It has a tiny clear frosted plastic case to keep the cart in, and the instructions and pamphlets just hang loose in the carboard box. I guess technically though, if you're going to put the game away, you're probably going to want the Grip in the box with it anyway. The box opens up very easily, but it's not very convenient to take apart the whole plastic packaging bits to get everything put away, I think they expect you to buy the fancy carrying case or something.
Umm...guess that's about it for my review I could go on about the graphics and the new characters and stuff, but I thought I'd just focus on the DS specific side of the game. _________________ How wonderful to be so profound.
