I like the first book in the trilogy, "The White Mountains", and I quite like the other two books. I appreciated the idea of some children escaping from the sheep-like existence under control of the cap, and joining the resistance. 
But the BBC TV series looks terribly clunky next to what my mind imagined the story as. I think they needed a bigger budget, and better costume dept!
