I have a problem with light, and notice that it is much worse in the mornings, than afternoons and evenings.

is this because the light is somehow brighter? is not light about the same intensity an hour before and an hour after noon? i have also wondered if it's simply that after being in the dark and then asleep for several hours, that coming suddenly into the light is the problem with mornings, but if i wake in the afternoon, the problem is definatly less. so a gradual adjustment makes no difference; ive tried.

my flat has blackouts on all windows, and is painted charchol and navy; i find white rooms really unsettling and uncomfortable to be in, so the problem is not restricted to daylight, but artificial light too, and even the colour of my environment,

though natural light is definatly more 'painful' in the mornings. white rooms are also worse in the morning, poss since one has to travel to them- thus through natural light, to reach them..

why should morning light feel brighter/ more painful??

anyone else find this??

I'd say it seems worse because your eyes have not adjusted yet after waking up. Since autism is mainly a sensory problem, I'd say that you have a particular sensory issue with light. I'm not that bothered by it, I'm more bothered by being surrounded by people. However I do need a blindfold to sleep and dull lights bother me.

Very Happy hi Wink thanks... interesting.
i cant wear an eye mask as i dont like the feeel of something on my eyes- that's why i love my black out fabric!!
how do you cope with other people?

i find this by far the most crippling thing in my life; as i am now, i could not share a house with someone- ie marriage- as i just need to be alone so much. though i am really lonely..
i do not havfe a job, because i cant bear other people; its like fat, naked, sweaty, hairey men are draping themselves all over me and shouting and screamng at the same time, as im trying to write a thesis or something- huge stress, and just wayyy to close, too.

Every day when I go to work, while I'm totally fine inside the room, I have to cup my gloved hands around my glasses like blinders until my eyes adjust to the light level....
... and it is usually bright enough that my tear ducts act up, and I'm left rubbing the wetness out of my eyes for most of the morning, which irritates me.

I used to.
I was fool enough to get transitional lenses that respond to increased light levels by darkening.... but I forgot that they're primarily attuned to the ways of sun-loving neurotypical filth.... and so are not sensitive enough.
I'd rather have a pair that are slightly tinted most of the time and go welding-mask-black in direct sunlight.

Not only that, but they're only sensitive to UV radiation... so they don't respond to artificial light.

i do, but sometimes i cant think clearly with them on, as i dont like the feel of them,a nd whip them off, then get the full blast of evil evil sunlight.
on the plus side, i am forever being told that i look 10 years young than i am; as most of aging is due to sun expose, so all this walking on the shady side of the street etc has handy benifits too! Cool

Get some fit over sunglasses, they are the best because they block the light from the sides.

I have sensitive eyes so I wear them a lot.

It's not that the light itself hurts my eyes. It's that I am sensitive to light coming in my bedroom in the morning when I am trying to sleep. It's annoying because I wake up then have a lot of problems falling back to sleep. I need a dark and quiet environment when I am trying to get to sleep

this is what i have-
http://www.fabricuk.com/fabrics.php?categ=31

i just sellotaped it round the windows. no light at all comes in- it's lightweight, so doesnt make the room hot.
really recomend it. i get the sun shining directly into my bedroom from dawn until midday, so i keep the nasty thing out.
or buy a blind..
