*DO NOT VOTE IF YOU DON'T KNOW ALL OF THESE BANDS* This poll won't be fair if you only only vote for the band that you know.

Good qualifier with needing to know all the bands. I would have said Yes, but I don't know Van Der Graaf Generator.

But...what about Kraaftwerk, and Tangerine Dream, and Mike Oldfield, and Camel...and Pink Floyd?

I would agree with Willard, and also add Neu and Faust to the list.

I would definitely vote for Neu.

How can you possibly start a thread on prog rock without including Rush? Rush are a great band, especially their eighties work.

For that matter, what about King Crimson's sequel, Emerson Lake & Palmer?

Yeah no kidding. What the hell is up with people thinking that I should add Kraftwerk? Shocked

I love Kraftwerk but they aren't progressive rock.

I personally hate it when people call Rush prog. Most of their songs run at around 3 minutes long. How is that prog?

Rush are now most remembered for "2112" which pioneered "prog metal".

Love to death:
Yes

Love an album or two from plus some other stuff:
Van der Graaf Generator (though this goes up if you include solo Peter Hammill in the 70s which sometimes matched or exceeded most of the VDGG records)
King Crimson
Gentle Giant (though unlike most prog fans I get less interested in them after Octopus)

Quite like:
Genesis

My favourite is King Crimson, other than them, I have very little interest in progressive rock that isn't RIO and zeuhl. I won't count progressive genres of music from times since, saying the face of prog' has changed hugely. No more prancing around in leotards playing the piccolo and pretending to be an elf.

You should at least hear Van der Graaf Generator's Pawn Hearts if you haven't already.

I have a few of their albums but have only listened to a few minutes of a couple of their songs. Nothing of theirs has really appealed to me much so far but I'm sure I will eventually start liking them. They are giants in the prog world so I should start liking them with time. Lots of bands take a while to get used to.

Maybe their radio hits yes, but they have enough songs who are long length and with some complex structures. Add to that their creativity with synthesisers (which was not that common around that time), the very in-depth lyrics, and the overall quality of all three musicians involved. Songs like "Subdivisions" are fantastic in every possible aspect.
