I've been told from time to time it's odd that I know damn near everything about Led Zeppelin's recordings. From song title, to the album it's off of, to the order of songs on the album, to songwriting credits/label, and what year it was released. My da will ask me what Zep song is playing on the radio and I'll give the whole spiel about it being "Black Dog" from L.Z. 4 (Zoso), its the first song, released 1971, and pre-Swan. And my da will give me this look: Shocked I don't think I've really listened to Zep that much but I am really keen on them. I do the same thing with the Beatles. It's odd. I don't think I'm obsessed with certain bands, but my knowledge of them is certainly amazing considering I'm about thirty years too young to be this knowledgeable about some of them (and most of my knowledge is pre-internet, off of the liner notes). I do however listen to an album for weeks if not months on end. Might explain why I know quite a bit about a lot of classic rock.

Kinda side-related: my da and I have been playing "guess that classic rock song", mainly to test my memory, and he played the first three notes of "Angie" by the Stones and I had it.

edit: And this is one the reasons my da has been saying this a lot recently: "And you only think you have Asperger's?".

I have had two MAJOR music obsessions. Fleetwood Mac (mostly Stevie Nicks) and Counting Crows. Fleetwood Mac was a big one for me. It is also how I met my husband online. I have a lot of Fleetwood Mac items that I have collected over the years. Counting Crows sort of replaced Fleetwood Mac as far as intensity of obsession in 2004. We even travelled from Los Angeles to New Orleans to see them play. I know all the band members in each band, all the albums, songs, lyrics, etc. for each.

Pink Floyd
I know which songs came from which album, but not so much the year they were released. I break it down by Syd/Post Syd/Roger Dominant/Post Roger. I can tell you who is singing and if the song means anything or the guys just thought it sounded cool.

edit:add
It absolutely kills me that I'm still missing a studio album, but I almost have them all.

Echo & The Bunnymen have been a quite constant music obsession of mine, including have travelled through England for a week to see them 3x in 4 days in 3 different cities.

Apart from them I had many shorter obsessions music wise, such as Bauhaus, Heather Nova, Marilyn Manson, The Smiths, and more recently Orphaned Land.
Although none of them became obsessions as big as the Bunnymen, I do consider myself a fan of them and have many of their records.

Yeah, I'm somewhat obsessed with music (extreme understatement).

I can't even begin to list all my specific musical interests. I'd write an interminable post.

i do the same with the beatles, but now i'm listen to old blues bands and singers like leadbelly, big maceo, i also listen a lot of fats domino, chuck berry, elvis, and all that kind of music, so when people ask me about music i start telling the history of rock n' roll

Hmmm....I'm obsessed with many.

One that does come to mind right now is the Beatles. They emit a lot of different moods and musical style into their band. Not many bands do that.

I've also been getting into the old old stuff like Paul Whitmeman and 1920s jazz. Not real into jazz but I see to like that kind around the 20s and 30s cause they're more melodious and different.

I was huge into Rush from about mid-2002 until early 2005...I knew all the albums, bought almost all of them, saw them in concert, got some shirts, books, posters, learned a bunch of their songs on drums, guitar and bass...

Hmm...I wonder what band I could possibly be obsessed with Wink

Worst part about being obsessed with Sabbath is when people go "Oh yeah, Iron Man is a great Ozzy Osbourne song (or Crazy Train by Black Sabbath)." or "Black Sabbath sucks when Ozzy's not in the band. Except Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die! suck too." Mad Mad Mad

I have a few other bands I'm obsessed with as well, to various extents. I think most people just shrug me off as a music snob Rolling Eyes

I had a BIG Beatles thing back in my teens, which I actually got teased at school about. I'm still something of a Beatles fan, but not as obsessively as I was then.

Now, I have a big Nirvana obsession, and in particular a Kurt Cobain obsession. I'm pretty good on knowing the histories of the songs and any alternative versions of the lyrics (there are quite a few), and I'm told it's spooky the way I can look at a photo of Kurt and (usually) tell you when, where and under what circumstances it was taken.

(Sabbacadabra, on a par with your Ozzy comments...I mostly don't visit Nirvana forums any more because they're so crawling with conspiracy theorists. Opinions of whether or not 'Sappy' would ever have made a hit single are one thing, essays by amateur 'experts' in forensic ballistics are quite another.)

Ah yes, another thing I don't like about Sabbath...seems like the majority of the fans are the complete opposite of me: "Smoke pot! 4:20! Ozzy rules! Death metal! YEAH!!! GET DRUNK AND HIGH! HAIL SATAN!" Rolling Eyes

That's just a bit much, I'd say.
