I'd stop and offer it a hit of rock... _________________ Well. That was a hastily unloaded pile of incoherence. |

I'd stop and hit it with a rock. _________________ ACHTUNG all WP'ers...I will not be online from Aug 18th for a while due to a house move. I'm still alive and well but might not have internet access for some time. So long!

Of course, have to. Not only for the dog, but people also crash
badly because they try to avoid hitting them. _________________ --Walken for President 2008 the only sane choice-- |

Yes!
I could care less about a person getting run over but dogs are a different matter. |

I've actually done that: saw a dog running on the shoulder of a major freeway, stopped the car and returned it to its owner (he had a tag on).
My dog almost got run over just yesterday - chasing a cat. |

Of course I would. I've picked up dogs, deer, and gophers before at various places due to injury for the latter ones, and being lost/abandoned for dogs.
A while back, a man who goes to the place I volunteer at brought in the littlest kitten who was in the freeway, abandoned. So cute. Someone else there adopted her and took her home; she really was adorable. _________________ “I shall not commit the fashionable stupidity of regarding everything I cannot explain as a fraud.” - C.G.Jung |

I love animals too much just to leave it too an unknown fate. It would kill me inside to think of the poor thing weaving through traffic.
Though I'm sure I'd be scared sh** less. Cars are frightening things for me.
I'd still try.
Call animal control and try to get it to come to the shoulder.
Poor puppy. |

Not on the highway...wouldn't I get run over and not even save the freaking dog?
I would save it on a less busy road though! _________________ "You can do the math a thousand way, but you can't undo the past"

And risk a major pile-up likely to kill that dog, you and pretty much a lot load of other people in the process?
I think you need to get your priorities right, and asset the risk of the situation at hand. Maybe if there's no traffic for miles and it's daylight and off-peak hours, maybe I'd consider it (by trying to scare it off, or try something that doesn't take long, like less than 15 seconds), otherwise no chance in hell. _________________ "Have a nice apocalypse" - Southland Tales |
