|
|
From AOL News, reprinted on isp.netscape.com:
| Quote: | Does She Want Sex? No. 1 Clue Is easy to discern if you know what to look for. The answer is in her face. Men and women are able to tell if the other is interested in a sexual fling or prefers a long-term commitment by carefully studying facial cues. That's the word from researchers at the United Kingdom's Durham University, St. Andrews University and Aberdeen University, who found that a man generally prefers a woman whom he believes is open to a short-term sexual relationship, while a woman generally prefers a man whom she perceives to be potentially suitable for a long-term relationship, reports HealthDay News.
The study: Seven hundred volunteers examined photographs of faces of the opposite sex, all of whom were in their early 20s. Each participant was asked to judge the photos for attractiveness and sexual attitudes. These judgments were then compared with the actual attitudes and behaviors of the people in the photos.
The results: Fully 72 percent of the 153 volunteers in the first study sample correctly identified sexual attitudes from photos more than half the time, reports HealthDay News. Women who seemed to be open to a short-term fling were typically rated by the men as being more attractive, while men who appeared to be open to casual sex were seen as being more masculine-looking with a squarer jaw, larger nose and smaller eyes. Men who had softer features were judged as better long-term partners. And while men were easily able to identify women who would be open to a quickie sexual liaison, there were no common facial details to explain it, although these women did tend to have wide eyes and large lips. (Think Angelina Jolie.)
"Our results suggest that although some people can judge the sexual strategy of others simply by looking at their face, people are not always sure about their judgments, possibly because the cues are very subtle. Yet preferences for different types of faces were actually quite strong," study author Dr. Lynda Boothroyd said in a prepared statement. "This shows that these initial impressions may be part of how we assess potential mates--or potential rivals--when we first meet them. These will then give way over time to more in-depth knowledge of that person as you get to know them better and may change with age." This is the first study to show that people are sensitive to subtle facial signals about the type of romantic relationships that others might enjoy.
Warning: Men, don't presume a woman wants to have sex with you based only on her appearance. The study was published in current issue of Evolution in Human Behavior. |
square jaw, large or wide eyes, larger noses and lips...these are not facial social cues, they're permanent features. I mean I can make my nose a little wider with muscle control, but it's not a social cue as far as I know and it's certainly not an attractant (looks downright goofy in fact). What kind of junk science is this? No wonder some of us have a hard time sorting this stuff out... _________________ "I don't mean to sound bitter, cynical or cruel - but I am, so that's how it comes out."

I think you're dead on. How do you know if it's an intended (conscious or otherwise) feature or not? _________________ Player of Pardus. |

They are trying to say that people who look like that arfe usually more interested in certain things. Like somehow a big jaw makes me mognagamous or something.
Something to do with how people percive us is kinda how we act. _________________ The two loudest sounds in the world are a click when you should hear a bang, and a bang when you should hear a click.

No duh! I could have told them that. I think they wasted a lot of money. They should have given it to me. _________________ I accept chaos. I am not sure whether it accepts me. I wonder what they say about women who have no neck at all. (my neck seems always to be buried in my shoulders and only comes out or pops up when something interesting is going on.) _________________ I accept chaos. I am not sure whether it accepts me. Geez, from the amount of harassment that I get, I must have features that say that I am open for casual sex. That's awful.... _________________ "However gradual it looks from here, look if you like, but you will have to leap." |

More likely you have some sort of features that are considered sexually attractive. When I was thin with large breasts I had guys fight over me at times. (Which some women apparently like, but I found disturbing.) Despite the fact that a lot of people called me ugly if they looked at my face (and that I was hairy, smelly, and didn't change my clothes much, or bathe, or brush my teeth, etc.). I had the right figure to override that for some guys I guess. And maybe the big eyes, I don't know. _________________ "We may seem in the gutter from up there where you are but maybe you don't know we still see the same stars." -Donna Williams |

Well, I really don't know how I look to other people, and worse, there are days when I seem attractive, and then others where I prefer to hide in my house all day, LOL. I also don't think that I photograph well, so even looking at a picture of myself doesn't give me any clues. I have been told that I don't need make-up, gotten compliments on my skin, but I really don't know what people are responding to. _________________ "However gradual it looks from here, look if you like, but you will have to leap." |
