I find myself repulsed by misconceptions of autism and Asperger's syndrome. I myself am an aspie and proud of it. People are so ignorant of Autism and believe all sorts of crazy things. Some believe that it is contagious or that it is a disease. It is not a disorder (except for possibly very low functioning cases) let alone a disease. Foundations such as Autism Speaks do not help or represent Autistic people. We all know it. We should find ways to educate the masses on this fact. Liberal media is distorting the truth. There is no cure for autism, there never will be , there should not be one, and I for one do not want one. If I could make a willful decision as to whether I had AS, I would choose to have it. I believe that AS is an evolutionary chain. We should recognize that Autism is not just another disorder but rather an evolution. Autism Speaks and other organizations alike are bad. Yes, BAD! They need to be stopped before everyone thinks that people with Autism and related syndromes are lepers! Outcasts! Theories of mercury in vaccines causing autism are entirely fallacious in my opinion. Entirely made up by liberal media. We should be spreading a positive image of Autism not a negative one! Help spread the word and leave your comments please!

I really agree with u on that people with autism & aspergers are misinterpred by the media & are viewed as a "diesease" or abnormal when u look it up. That's why i wanna be famous to get my point across about autism & that were not a diesease or retarded or weird were just like everyone else only more unique & takes us a while to do things were great pretenders of being what they say as "normal"

We're like everyone else only more unique? Confused

I think we should be honest about the negatives as well as the positives. Making ourselves out to be some kind of superhuman super-race with no imperfections is a bit on the imaginative side. On the other hand, how do you present something that is inherently political (ASD) in an neutral and unbiased way?

I was in that phone conference and speaking to a guy named Andrew about this and saying how sickening it is that Autism is mostly focused on the low functioning part of it and how bad it is. Then all that healing, curing and sh**... makes me sick to my stomach. I always tell people... it's NOT the diets, meds or treatment healing them... it's called GROWING UP and if they're meant to speak and be high functioning then it'd all come with time. People are stupid and anything for money right?

Here where I am... there's long wait lists for IBI/ABA and services and stuff, but there's a catch... GOTTA BE LOW FUNCTIONING

So basically they tell all HFA and aspergers people to F off and they're on they're own and then when people see them they all freak out and say they "out grew it"

like uh... we're not retarded and it's not a not a life threatening disease.

Parents really should stop acting like it's a death sentence when they find out their kid has autism Rolling Eyes

I'm currently writing a book on Aspergers. My hope is that it may help spread truth. Hell, if that bitch Jenny McCarthy can wax idiotic without proof, then I sure as hell can wax idiotic with some proof. So, you know... there.

You can be vocal about HFA and such without getting hysterical. Once you are hysterical, all your credibility goes POOF!

Please, don't be an angry, ranty autism advocate.

I agree always since people assume too much stuff in the first place.

If any of you sisters here on WP want to add to a book I have written about my life and being an aspie girl, then message me. I'm planning on publishing later this year, not to make money but to reset perceptions and raise awareness. I will be giving part of any proceeds to Alex to help run WP as this community is very important to me, but I will also be giving the book away online for free to help other girls like me.

I am already famous in my own world and am about to launch a global TV show. So now is a great time to speak to me as I'd love to get more quotes from girls to add to my own story.

I agree with the OP, but we will not change perceptions using words like Autism and Asperger's.

It is like the Cold War, and trying to spread the Subversive Pinko point of view.

What is Autism? Well, there is nothing wrong with them, I mean they are not mentally ill, or phyically deformed, or something, they are just different somehow, so we call them Autistic.

What is Asperger's? Well, it's like Autism, but not the same, Autism-Lite?

Could you state that more clearly, I just don't get it?

Mostly they are not social, you know, wanting to have a light conversation with thousands of people, you know, real life, going to the big game, talking sports, keeping up with who's doing who in Hollywood, real stuff! Instead they have special interests, they read books and stuff. I have always wondered, "What do they do with them books anyway?"

So to sum it up, they prefer knowledge to people? Ya, that's it! They are retards.

Thank you for clearing that up. By the way, what is your Major? Me, I am getting my Masters in Vollyball, so I dont have to take all those reading and writing courses, then I will become a middle school teacher and coach.

Thank you for your help, "Coach", it is good to see that someone cares about education.

Yea, I can always tell, those retards never want to play sports, there is just something wrong with them, you know? Another thing, they ruin school for everybody, always studying and making A's, in my school we had to start a special division where kids who played sports could get A's in ball control, Group Games, Football Math, just to get them full Scholarships to State.

So there you have it folks, there is an epidemic destroying our Sacred Nation Under God, one in a hundred children are reading books, studying, are known by name at the Library, and are unable to name simple things, like the starting lineup of the NFL, important national dates, like when Paris got a boob job, and prefer computers and Wiki, some kind of mental thing, to real American TV, Oprah, and talk radio.
