|
|
| I was in Borders yesterday and noticed they've started stocking a magazine called Autism File. It's got lots of dietary stuff and seems to be anti-vaccine, but there's some interesting articles in there about what it feels like to be an aspie/ HFA. As it's the first autism-related magazine I've ever come across, I was wondering if anyone else has read it and what they thought of it. |

In other words, a curebie magazine. _________________ Mick Avory is my favourite Kink. He always has been and he always will be. Him and I are two peas in a pod. |

It says for the PARENTS of CHILDREN with autism. Definitely a curebie magazine _________________ "A person shielded by a true, benevolent passion is invincible!" |

think there's a borders in the trafford centre,am sure it used to be across from waterstones.
am sure there used to be one at west one [in salford] also, though again, might be getting it mixed up with waterstones as they have similar colours instore/outside. _________________ [LFAutie]

Most magazines which are targeted at parents focus on finding cures. They also tend to support all sorts of pseudoscientific treatments, some of which can be dangerous. _________________ Mark A. Foster, Ph.D. (full-time & tenured sociology professor)

| Lovely how everything always revolves around the parents of auti kids, and never about the kids or better yet the adults themselves. |

I think a magazine written by Autistic and Asperger people would be better with articles on daily life on the spectrum and help guides etc. So this is a curbie magazine then? |

I don't fully understand the term "curebie" yet, so I can't say, but they do oppose vaccines, which they believe cause autism. |

"Curebie" means they are focused on and would jump at the chance to "cure" their kids of Autism / Aspergers.
As a general rule, parents are "curebies" and those living with the "disease" are "curenots". Talk about irony!
(Parent see their kids struggling and want the "best" for them and all that. Those that live with it realize its an entire personality trait, and curing you would change who you are...drastically. To the point that "you" cease to exist and a new consciousness takes "your" place. They also realize, or perhaps fail to realize what is wrong, there is nothing wrong with thinking differently) |
