Even though in some ways, I am clumsy. I am ambidextrous, being able to use either hand for doing nearly everything, including writing. Some things I am slightly dominate left or right and other things equally skilled with both sides. I want to know are any other ambidextrous aspies out there.
I have to say right now is that being clumsy and ambidextrous is a "coordination paradox". I wasn't originally left haned forced to be right handed. I was born this way and did secsessfully resist attempts by ignorant predudice people to be only right handed. I have several family members that are left handed. There must be some genetic factors involved. |

Well, I can use either hand for whatever, but favor my right. My mother is ambidextrous, but favors her left. |

Not really. I can write with both my left and my right hand, but I don't think I'm ambidexterous. I like being a leftie anyways

I did an experiment in college where I stopped using my right hand unless I was performing a two-handed task. I found it only took a matter of time before my left hand got to 80-90% of what I could do with my right-hand. I think in many cases it would just take practice to be completely ambidextrous. |

I'm left-handed. I have more dexterity in my right hand, but fence equally bad with both (used to drive the other fencers crazy by 'switching off' each hand after every point... Play guitar backwards and upside down, but it feels right to me.. |

| In response to t0. Intersesting experiment, however 80% to 90% use of your other hand would only make you partially ambidextrous. How long did this experiment last? I believe that some people could achieve being more than 90% ambidexteous, but only a few could do it compleatly. I have known many people who were so compleatly left of right handed. I don't think they could even come close to your 80-90 percent use of your thier other hands. |

Most people call me a leftie, but I'm more mixed than anything.
Most people use one hand for the majority of tasks (writing, using a mouse, catching/throwing, using scissors etc) but I'm reliant on both hands equally. for example, I can write with my left, but can only use a computer mouse with my right, I catch with my left, but can only throw with my right, I use a fork with my left, but can only use scissors with my right etc. So it's pretty even. |

I've always been fascinated by ambidexterity, at least in part because of the ambidextrous nature of the martial art I study (Wing Chun). Both sides end up getting an equal amount of training, which is useful in sparring as it gives me an extra variable to control that boxers tend to ignore. Something as simple as changing your lead can turn you into an entirely different fighter.
There was also a time when I wanted to create a left handed alter ego, in case I ever needed to be two people. To this day the only cursive I can write with my left hand is the signature of said alter ego.
Handedness is one of the first things I notice about people when watching them. I always hope that if I get married, it will be to a lefty, but its hardly a requirement.

Ambi. In the lab I switch with a rythym. I do (mostly, not always) write with my right hand, but, weirdly, I usually draw with my left. I think I brush my teeth with my left. In any case, I'm certainly ambi.
Related: I have LOUSY handwriting....sigh. Mixed slant, uneven, etc.

I do notice handedness in others too, but it doesn't matter to me whether they're left or right - I just notice. Just curious, if it's ok to ask, why would you choose a lefty for your wife? (ok, I REALLY am curious)! Why would it matter?
Oh! Now I get to whine a bit. At the grocery WHY are the debit/credit machines biased strongly for righties? I struggle with this. The stylus is on the right, which is ok, BUT the cord attached is on the right. This means I have to scan card with my left hand to the right slot (without dropping said card), then the stylus cord can, and does, touch the keypad, selecting what I don't want/need selected! How come these devices aren't made ambi? Or with just a digital keypad? I've had more than 2 cashiers, watching me struggle, say "So many lefties have problems with these!" Uh huh.

i'm mainly right handed, but can use both for many things. i can write with both, catch and throw with both, swing a baseball bat both ways, and lots of other things i can't think of specifically at this moment. but as well, i know there are things that i'm not certain i can do with my left. there are no lefties in my immediate family, but my dad does play golf left handed.

half and half, like anniemaniac. Left hand for some things, right hand for others.
I'd read about people being truly ambidextrous, but never seen it. I did find one paper describing a West Coast tribe in BC (I think) where most of the kids were ambidextrous. Tres exotic. Stanley Coren's book on handedness is an interesting read. (can't remember title)
I always notice which wrist people wear their watches on. To me it's natural to wear it on the right wrist, so it always seems weird when I see others with it on their left wrists, even though that's the more common way. I notice handedness, too, but more as a curiosity. |

I'm left-handed. I was always the lefty with the English accent, and I now wear that badge, with honour.
