it's not the kids, it's all the pedophiles running to Radio Shack to find scanners that pick up that frequency...

The use is not as disturbing as the potential for misuse...

Reminds me about that Simpson's episode when Homer worked at Sprawl-Mart.[Parody Of Wal-Mart] Though it doesn't surprise me either as our government is trying to control us.

Finally, a chance to break out that Faraday cage you've got laying around in the basement. Just the thing to keep the 'ole paranoia stirred up.

Isn't this similiar to the "where you at" phones? When I heard about them, I thought of all the wives/husbands/children who would be required by their "others" to carry one of these around so they could be "monitored". Sounds like a control freaks idea of paradise.

Another thing I have an issue with, besides the ethical can of worms this is, is that surely it's just saying "Hey, we can't control our kids, even though we're meant to be teachers and people of authority"?? I mean, by having to give them chips surely it's admitting their own failures as mentors and educators?

I have to wonder whether any of these geniuses ever MET a child. School children lose backpacks - regularly! The chips might be useful for locating lost backpacks, but they won't be so useful for keeping track of the kids they belong to!

On the other hand...this could save me hours of hunting down my backpack, notbooks, keys and sheos when I am getting ready to leave the house. I could use a "chip kit" to attach to my personal items just so I could find them in my own apartment.

What ever happened to letting kids be kids? I honestly blame day time television for this. So many
housewives with too much time on their hands have been convinced by good ol' doctor phill that pedophiles, heroin dealers and god knows what else are hellbent on eating your children. So of course the only rational solution is to restrict any and all autonomy your child has. For their safety of course.

Yeah, try that on kids in my city's school district. Most of them don't even bother to take books home much less care where they leave their backpacks. Rolling Eyes

So I have a friend put my backpack in their backpack, and I skip school. Next?
Adults underestimate children's ability to come up with creative solutions. But anyway. I so, so agree that it's a way to gently ease us into microchipping humans as soon as they're born. Kinda like the tattoos in "Idiocracy". And then, I will join the underground societies of people who tear out their microchips and live in the sewers.

Either leaving the country or founding an isolated community out in the middle of nowhere sounds better each and every day.

This seems like something you'd read in The Onion, not real news.

Seriously though... madness. Absolute madness.

People (especially kids and teenagers) are always going to find ways to get away with stuff. There's not such a great risk that this chip thing would be ameliorating. I mean, really, it's not realistic to get a society that has complete control over kids anyway. A little mischief is normal, anyway.
