oh! I always loved George Carlin! I loved Al Sleet, the hippy dippy weather man. "the radar shows thunderstorms and ICBM missles coming over the poles from the USSR, so I wouldn't sweat the thunderstorms! he had a monolgue about typing that was hysterical!. I am so sad at this news, thank you for posting, Spudnik.
George Carlin's Views on Aging
Do you realize that the only time in our lives when we like to get old is when
we're kids? If you're less than 10 years old, you're so excited about aging that
you think in fractions.
"How old are you?" "I'm four and a half!" You're never thirty-six and a half.
You're four and a half, going on five! That's the key.
You get into your teens, now they can't hold you back. You jump to the next
number, or even a few ahead.
"How old are you?" "I'm gonna be 16!" You could be 13, but hey, you're gonna
be 16! And then the greatest day of your life . . . you become 21. Even the
words sound like a ceremony . . YOU BECOME 21. YESSSS!!!
But then you turn 30. Oooohh, what happened there? Makes you sound like
bad milk! He TURNED; we had to throw him out. There's no fun now, you're
Just a sour-dumpling.. What's wrong? What's changed?
You BECOME 21, you TURN 30, then you're PUSHING 40. Whoa! Put on
the brakes, it's all slipping away. Before you know it, you REACH 50
and your dreams are gone.
But wait!!! You MAKE it to 60. You didn't think you would!
So you BECOME 21, TURN 30, PUSH 40, REACH 50 and MAKE it to 60.
You've built up so much speed that you HIT 70! After that it's a day-by-day
thing; you HIT Wednesday!
You get into your 80s and every day is a complete cycle; you HIT lunch; you
TURN 4:30; you REACH bedtime. And it doesn't end there. Into the 90s, you
start going backwards; "I Was JUST 92."
Then a strange thing happens. If you make it over 100, you become a little kid
again. "I'm 100 and a half!"
May you all make it to a healthy 100 and a half!!
As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever
let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more
than once and it's harder every time. You'll break hearts too, so remember how
it felt when yours was broken. You'll fight with your best friend. You'll blame a
new love for things an old one did. You'll cry because time is passing too fast,
and you'll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh
too much, and love like you've never been hurt because every sixty seconds
you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back. |

There is no emoticon complete and utter loss for words.
Like Gary Gygax and Heath Ledger, I discovered that he died via Fark.com. _________________ "We can't stop here, this is bat country." - Hunter S. Thompson |

Swearing out topic
He was the hippy-dippy weatherman, who knew there were certain things you could not say in the mainstream media way back then. Now you can say them, but there is still no communication. _________________ Radical Aspergian

Yes, I was taken by surprise when I got up this morning & that headline jumped out at me from my opening browser page.
Saw him in concert in early 90's at my college, didn't much care for that because it was too much swearing & not enough funny. Am not against swearing, just that on that occasion it seemed he relied too much on it & not enough on the clever insights I expect of him.
Years ago, I read a biography of Lenny Bruce & it reminded me of Carlin somewhat ("envelope-pushing" in performance & outlook, calling things as one sees them). Later in life, my spouse bought the 7-CD box set of his & we enjoyed much of his material/routines. I also liked his film roles, such as in "Dogma" & "Bill & Ted"-though much preferred him as himself, with his incisive social commentary. _________________ *"You cannot administer a wicked law impartially-it destroys everyone it touches, its violators as well as its upholders."* |

Thinking about my favorite Carlin routines today.
Al Sleet, the hippy dippy weatherman: “Tonight’s weather forecast: Dark. Continued mostly dark tonight, followed by widely scattered light in the morning.”
“Baseball has the seventh-inning stretch. Football has the two-minute warning.”
“Honesty may be the best policy, but it’s important to remember that apparently, by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy.” |

This makes me sad. I hadn't seen him when he came through my town 2 years ago, and I thought "Next time...."
I can't even think to describe how I feel that he's no longer on this earth. I've been enjoying his comedy since I was in my early teens, and now there'll be "no more new material".
My favorite was when he was describing cafeteria food "Could be meat...could be cake!" |

This was a HUGE loss in the world of comedy and any free-thinking soul (like me). George was a genius!
He was such an influential source in practically all the comedians who followed him. Just like Richard Pryor. I miss them both. |

When I read about this morning I was pretty shocked and upset. He only performed last weekend over at Las Vegas.
I'm going to miss George Carlin, I liked his comedy routines. I saw a few of his recent ones a few weeks ago and I was laughing on and off.
R.I.P. George Carlin, you will be greatly missed! |

He had an uncanny ability to turn our everyday clichés and figures of speech into the grotesque and the grotesque into the hilarious.
He will be missed. I heard about it on NPR this morning. _________________ Life! Liberty!...and Perseveration!!..... |

A tip of the hat to a master of his art. Perhaps one day, Jesus may finally bring those pork chops... thanks George, for all the laughs.

George Carlin was one of my favorite comedians......profane at times, but mostly a comic genius! When I was growing up in the 70's, my mother used to play his comedy records.
I have been a George Carlin fan since. I will miss him! |

| By far my favorite comedian. I have 29 hours of George Carlin's material downloaded on my computer. |
