We understand things logically
Some of us don't show/ and or don't have emotions

But one difference is that we can ration a computer cannot in a physical environment with unexpected events such as the world outside cyberspace.

I think and operate like a computer - most of the time - but I still do have emotions.

Yes and no, though I lean towards no. There is a lot more cognitive processing vs. instinctual response for those with AS, at least to my understanding. In that way, it is 'processed' in a more computer-like fashion... but I am highly emotional. Not knowing what to do or knowing how to express emotions is a lot different from not having them.

I have not yet been known to display a glowing error message hovering just on my shirt, but there's a first time for everything. Mind you, if I had anything in common with Windows Vista, I'd have probably been dumped in the river long ago.

More seriously, I do not consider myself to function like a computer, and none of us here should. To see yourself as a computer is to see yourself as inhuman, and incapable of experiencing the full range of feelings and emotions that other people have. Just because we show emotions a little differently from most people, it is not the same thing as not having emotions.

We might be logical, yes, but we're sometimes subject to the same irrational impulses as everyone else. If I was to insult you and whack you on the head a couple of times, I somehow doubt you'd be saying 'loading...50%' in a robotic voice. Well, you might do, I don't know.

Conceptually we're different from computers; computers are tools.

A more interesting question is whether people think and operate mechanically. That's not a question I can answer, though. And I don't really see what AS or "emotions" have to do with any of this.

Computers don't have emotions. We do. Therefore, we are not computers.

Computers don't have emotions. We do. Therefore, we are not computers.

So little is understood about the intricacies of the human mind that I'm not even sure people have appropriately defined "emotions" or whether they are even conceptually fit to precisely describe how humans act.

Well, I've never really run into anyone who has stated it so simply and truthfully as this.

Vulcans experience emotions but deliberately suppress them - I just watched the Sarek episode in STNG Series 3.

I don't think aspies deliberately keep their emotions in check. More that we don't always display them as well as others.

I would have to say I think like a computer. I don't know about all Aspies but I think some do. I was given a test at the time of my DX which determines how much a person thinks like a computer and I got a really high score on it and finished it in 5 min. when average time is 20 min. No one had finished in less than 20 min. before actually. The way I see it is if there's a test out there like that then there are other people who think like a computer, I would say those are some other Aspies or those with Autism.

It didn't make sense to me at first, niether did the DX but since then it makes more sense to me. I know one thing, I sure as hell don't think anything near an NT and if I had to choose between thinking like a computer or an NT, I'd pick a computer. It does cause some problems with relationships though.

However, I feel like a human. Thoughts and feelings are 2 different things. Of course I have feelings but the way I think is just really different.

I try to think like a computer because I feel that it assists with storage - particularly short-term memory which I'd otherwise have a problem with.

Also, logical thinking is better for problem-solving.

I don't try to act like a computer though...
