"walked wrong". I just remembered in 8th grade, many years ago, 1996, we were giving oral presentations in English class. We were graded on how we walked to the front of the classroom. When it was my turn, I just walked up like I was supposed to and did my presentation. When I got my grade sheet, I had points off for not walking right. So ever since then, I've been self-conscious of how I walk. And now I finally realized that I might walk unusually because of AS. How mean was that teacher?!  What does English class even have to do with gait? |

I hate English teachers to LOL! My English 1 teacher gave me C's  (I'm not a grammar person and it WAS MY FIRST TIME WRITING A COLLEGE PAPER!!) The following semester I had to write another paper in Psychology class she returned the paper with a Post It note "Very Thorough but have someone check for grammatical errors." I took the paper home and analyzed it to the best of my ability to find grammar issues. Mainly though I worry about getting words on paper/computer. So a 10 page report THEN gets reprinted after looking for Grammar issues so it BECOMES 20 PAGES LOL!! |

| When something like that happens people need to complain about it. That's the only way to change people's mindsets. Just sounds like that english teacher had personal issues to me. No one should have to put up with that. |

There is no such thing as a perfect walk, unless your a hungry model on a platform or something. The walking posture, I think, means nothing. I saw someone walk like a goose once. She couldn't help that because of back problems. I didn't hate her for it, because I sure as heck didn't have the right to.
Thus I conclude that your teacher is an idiot who lets athority get to their head. I can just imagine an idiot teacher now, sitting back like they are content, and the lady I mentioned goes up. "That's 50 points off for a lousy strut!" such BS, honestly. .. no, not you, the teach..

Heh, well then we are the same age, I was also in 8th grade in 1996 and I NEVER got points deducted for walking 'incorrectly' thats pretty dumb!

DX'ed with HFA as a child. However this was in 1987 and I am certain had I been DX'ed a few years later I would have been DX'ed with AS instead. |

Did the teacher know you had AS? I don't know when you were diagnosed.
I remember when I was 17, I was in JMG (Jobs of Montana something) and we had to pick a topic and give out a presentation on it. I picked video games and talked about facts, each release of every game system and popular games. I got criticized for my body movements. Instead of standing still, I was moving my body sideways. They also commented I never looked up, I kept my eyes on my note cards. That's all I can remember.

| I once lost points because my 6th grade teacher said my checkmarks went the wrong way. It wasn't an AS thing, just an idiot teacher thing. |

I think teachers go from young idealistic teachers of knowledge to old sadists.
My 6th grade music teacher wanted to make a classic choir out of 2 classes. All the students had to "audition" in front of the entire class and were then assigned to the fitting voice. All got a place and I got a triangle (instrument) and was asked to sit quietly in the corner. I havent sung since. |

I was in a sort of leadership course where I had to tell a story for just 2 minutes, each part was out of 5 and I got a 1 out of 5 for 'Eye contact / being related with audience' I did make eye contact but I was probably weird about it. When I first stood up in front of everyone my heart was beating super fast and I panicked, by the end I was able to stand in front of a group and be relatively calm and myself which was cool. This was all before I learned about AS and I used to do all sorts of things trying to be able to do everything NT's could do. Now I feel it's alright to not be as good, it's quite a relief... |

Did he explain how to walk prior to grading you? If so, the grade was justified. Things like posture and how you walk to the podium are just as important in formal presentations as the material is. Actually to a certain extent your walking to the podium is more important than the material, because thats the first time the audience begins judging you on whether or not you are qualified on the subject
I had high school teachers give me bad grades simply because the work I turned in was college level. They took that to mean I cheated. |

That happened to me too. My 6th grade teacher was mad because my checks were facing the wrong way. 
Teachers are people too. They can be unreasonable just like anyone else. It's not fair, sure, but true. |

That was a pretty low thing for a teacher to do, but doesn't surprise me. My teachers were just as bad.
I remember every week in PE, the teacher picked two team leaders and got them to pick a person for their team in turns. She always picked the two popular kids, who happened to hate me. Every week, I would absolutely ALWAYS be the single last person standing there. Not once was I not last, and yet, every week, she let them do the exact same thing. The "losing" team (Ie, the team who got me) would always moan loudly, while the other team would laugh.
I was actually physically beaten by one teacher in that school too, and I wasn't the only one. She had severe anger issues and threw things sometimes aswell. I remember her once throwing about 6 or 7 ceramic plant pots of the table. They broke into pieces. She grabbed a boy by the arm and demanded he pick it up.
Many parents complained but nothing was ever done about her, in fact, she worked there for many years later and was eventually given early retirement (perhaps to avoid some kind of legal action).
I only wish we'd taken legal action over her at the time, but we had no proof and I was terrified of her anyway. Too late now. I hate having regrets. |

all along my education I have had teachers who were wrong about me, others were jealous, others discriminated me, a few praise me and the rest of the cake ignored me completely...
Just do what you love, learn what you want and don't pay much attention to those people... sometimes the one who teaches isn't quite the one who knows...
