or maybe they want to be able to use more of their oil for sale and so they're switching over to nuclear to use the least oil domestically so they can maximize their ability to sell in the market.

it'd make sense. if it weren't for the pseudo-liberal fascists here, we would be using more nuclear power plants too.

Khamenei is not Gandhi. What would make anyone think the leaders of Iran would want nuclear capabilities for peaceful means? If people don't believe the rhetoric Bush says, they shouldn't believe the rhetoric these people make also.

what good would a nuke do them?

IMO, Iran has always been the objective. He now has the country surrounded - with Iraq and Afghanistan.

Depends on how exactly you're asking the question.

It won't do them good if they're the only ones in the region with nuclear capabilities. But we know this is not true as there are other nations, even their neighbor--and it's neighbor, which have Nuclear weapons. Do not forget that the regime is still an oppressive regime, and one which is willing to send operatives to disrupt other nations if it serves their interests. How stupid are they to use such weapons (preemptive/unprovoked) if they have it in stock? I doubt they actually would, but how willing would other countries be at confronting them knowing what they're capable of?

Nuclear capabilities would certainly be an equalizer. Don't forget that they have been offered many options which they have refused.

And before anyone accuses me of hypocrisy (for not wanting Iran to have Nuclear capabilities), I actually see no reason for any country to have nuclear weapons. Seeing what they are capable of, why would any rational person ever want to invest into it? But very few are actually willing to give up their desires to rule others.

How oppressive is America to its people? Even the strange cults and xenophobes can have a field day here. Not so in Iran. The other part: you could add the US, and pretty much other nations to it as well.

if you fit into the homogenized populous, then yeah, you're "free". if you're outside of that, you have your money stolen through taxes to be given to religions that you are not a part of, you can be ticketed/fined arbitrarily the cops, laws are passed that take away your rights if they use the right terms on you. the state has no rights to vote how they see fit on drug laws here.

you don't get killed like other places...but why aim for the lowest common denominator? do you want to live in such a place? being just barely better than garbage isn't that good.

You're not very smart, are you?

I'd say he is correct about the hypocracy. But there are only 13 nations in the world that have nuclear weapons. They are

Russia (Has the most in the world; 16,000)
Israel (They repeatedly deny this although an several Israeli spies in the 1970's released information, also Jimmy Carter mentioned it in 2008, sources 200)
US (Second most in the world; 5,535)
Pakistan
India
China
North Korea

South Africa (although they claim to have dimemembered them before joining the NPT)
Italy
Netherlands
Turkey
Germany
France
