Ok, that's a bit of an exaggeration. But I do find myself spending a lot more time obsessing about the details of a game on the internet than actually playing it. For instance, I'm the only active administrator on the Castlevania Wiki (Reinhart77) and have spent much time writing articles, discussing, and searching for all thing Castlevania. I'd much rather watch movies for Tomb Raider, Doom, and Resident Evil than actually play the games. Fighting games are fun, but mainly as a way to access the dripping coolness of the character designs. The thing I liked best about 3D games is appreciating the scenery and soaking up the atmosphere, but have little interest in doing what I'm "supposed" to be doing in the game. Since discovering Second Life, which is a limitless world for me to explore in 3D (albeit, not as sophisticated as a PS3 game), I haven't had much of a drive to play 3D games.

I obsess about the industry and rant about how few modern games I want to play anymore, don't do a whole lot of actual playing these days. >.> My computer can't run too many high ends games anyway. So I'd want to play The Witcher, Bioshock, and the PC ports of Mass Effect and Gears of War, for example, but my computer isn't good enough.

Since my main AS obsession happens to be games, I do both. Smile I pay attention to certain details of what goes into games as well as playing them.

part of my problem is that i can't play immersive games while someone else is watching. i like to take my time and smell the roses and simply imagine being there, but nobody wants to watch me do that. also, i'd be in the middle of a good game, then my brother would come down and just watch me, and it'd just derail my whole experience. i have smaller screens to watch where i know i can guarantee privacy, but there's nothing quite as nice for that kind of game as the projector against a big wall of mine in the main living room.

I prefer video games with good storyline, so Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence (in Australia, we got the movie disc as part of the package bought) is a god-send.

I stopped obsessing about games for a long time... but then I got a new HD TV and PS3, so that's out the window.

I mostly play video games during social occasions these days, but I still write about them and write up my own ideas.

I dont play as much as I used to but invest a lot of time in every other aspect of gaming though - obsessively in some cases too

When i do get into a new game though its a full on thing which i milk for every penny i paid for it.

From recent times these games have been obsessions for me:

Animal Crossing Wild World
Resident Evil 4
Zelda Twlight Princess
Medal of Honor

My main obsession with them now is analyzing the structure of them and how they are designed. The simplest comparison is how I watch movies. Instead of figuring out the end of the story before it happens based on the events/characters, I try to question the writer/director's intent with the movie, in some sense even judge how intelligent the movie is to the point I'm at so far to help me with this. Then I can start making more assumptions about where I think things are going to go.

With games I find the more brilliant ideas tend to be the smaller ideas implemented, and the pacing rather then the high level design, which more people SEEM to get excited about.

I tend to spend more time on video game forums than actually playing them Razz
