I drive my entire family nuts with this but I cant stand being late....for anything. I will go into a full on panic attack just because Im late for my kids swim lesson. I live in Southern California so being late is a frequent occurance thanks to traffic Evil or Very Mad . I always try to leave early for things but I cant always be assured that I will not be late. I try telling myself that its no big deal and people will understand but I still freak out. Is anyone else like this and any ideas on how to get over it?

That describes me. I always leave early. I would much rather sit in the car in the parking lot or wait in a doctor's office for 30 minutes than risk being late.

I feel a lot of pressure, internally, to be on-time. When others make me late, I get upset and can be quite rude to them.

Reading your post reminded me of something I wish I had not done, but one of the few true 'melt-downs' I have ever had was because of being late. I nearly assulted someone. Just thinking of this makes me cringe. At the time I was beside myself with anger; looking back, why did it matter? It wasn't even an important appointment. My anger ruined my evening, and more importantly ruined my friend's.

Is this common to AS? I have never heard of anyone describing this before.

Thanks for your post.

Penny

There was a time when I took being on time very seriously because I developed a reputation for consistency. Now I still do treat it with importance, but I don't lose my head if I'm late because usually its due to reasons beyond my control; not my fault.

I am just like you, lateness really freaks me out. When I'm meeting someone and they are late it annoys me, sometimes pisses me off. But when I am made late by someone or a bus not turning up it really upsets and angers me.

I hate being late to anything myself. I don't like being late because I feel like it disrespects the person or even that I am being late for. I view lateness as a form of arrogance. That is, the person who is habitually late is generally arrogant because he/she thinks that his or her time is more valuable than anyone else's and that the rest of the world should wait for them.

I'm not really annoyed at people who come late but hate being late myself.

Being really early isn't a problem though--I showed up at the dentist a half hour early today and actually got in quicker.

I'm also a huge stickler about not being late, I'll often rush...so that I don't have to rush (it makes sense, just think about it for a minute) Very Happy

I HATE being late. I hate even more when others are late. I try not to feel so bad when it's not my fault though.. try to remind yourself that you left early and you did everything you could, and you were still late. There was nothing more you could do. Say that in your head a few times when you get upset over traffic making you late - it might calm you down a little.

I totally understand though.

My EX was like that. I think it's a personality type maybe?

Personally I am late and I am early. When I give my word I am usually early so I wont be late.

In my opinion being late is your own damn fault. If you do not have the skills to plan ahead for things like traffic or weather then you deserve the conciquiences.

We are all responcible for our actions, something society seems to have forgotten.

And traffic you can't plan for? Like an accident? Would that be my fault too? That sure makes sense.

I freak out if I'm ever late, but I don't think it's an AS thing. I think it's a professional thing, respect for my customers and coworkers.

If I am not 15 minniute early I am already late.

Direct quote from the first sentence on my resumes cover letter.

I am so sorry sh** happens but if you had maybe thought about how you live in LA and uh I dunno there is a lot of traffic/accedents you might leave an hour early? And then bring a snack for the road?

Or there are these things called traffic reports!

Jesus people ... seriously .... for real.... think ... plan ... exicute. Other wise you will be filled with crap the rest of your lives.... it's that simple.

I hate being late, or anyone else being late. I am *extremely* picky when it comes to time, and I start getting upset if someoene's just a minute late. Because of all this, I often arrive to places early. On average, I arrive to the movie theater a half hour early.
