I know people with AS have obsessions and such but what I'm describing is you get so intense on a certain thing (reading something,a movie, videogame etc.) that if you get disturbed with a question or someone comes into your room you jump out of your seat in shock? Smile I tend to do this alot and was curious if anyone else with AS does this. Smile (Hopefully it's not just me.) Smile

I feel more like throwing something. I take a lot of deep breaths and try and smile at my BF and say..."yes dear?" Other wise my ceramic cat collection would be in pieces by now. It drove me nits as a kid to when my mom would interupt me just to remind me to take out the garbage or get her a Coke.....arrggg Evil or Very Mad

I used to do this before I meditated, but now I'm open to the next moment being some new thing I have never thought of. But now I'm annoyed if someone else has a startle response to me. Accepting that would be my next level of improvement, I hope.

When I get really absorbed in my imaginary world, it makes me very irritated when people try to talk to me.

This happens to me a lot, especially if I'm reading a really good book, or watching a really cool anime, and then when I finish, that's all i want to talk about.
I also get really annoyed when my mom or sister wants to have a "nonsense" conversation while I'm in my own little dream world with my ipod on.

No, it is not just you Smile Sometimes I get quite involved in a transcription at work and if a co-worker comes over and startles me, I will jump, or even emit a tiny little squeaky noise with indrawing of breath. Today was funny - the co-workers could see I was intently concentrating (last day before vacation, and I wanted to finish up certain projects, so I was using considerable concentration to do it) , and instead of coming over and risking scaring me, out of the corner of my eye, I saw one of them wildly waving their hands over their heads trying to get my attention lol !

I sometimes scream when startled. Usually when home alone and absorbed in something, and then the husband comes home. He's kinda gotten used to this quirk of mine. The odd thing is, by the time the scream comes out, I know there's nothing to scream about. Like, there's this moment when I know I'm about to scream, and I know there's no reason to, and I've calmed down from the brief moment of being startled, and yet, I can't do a darn thing to stop the scream.

I get fixated on things easily, but when I'm interrupted it depends on how focused I am on how I react. Most of the time I get slightly irritated, but act rather calm. However I get rather agitated if I'm continuously interrupted.
