Ignoring the arguement that we wouldn't be who we are without it, if you were given the option of having autism or not...which would you choose? Honestly.

Not. Simple as that.

I'd choose not to, I think life would've been alot easier for me.

I would probably choose having autism.

Yeah, same here. I think my life would have been a lot better and would be a lot better if I didn't have AS.

If I had to narrowly choose between those two it would be AS because I know what people who are "NT" are like and I would never want to be like that. I would never choose to be that kind of person. They can be evil.
I like watching snowflakes.
If given a broader choice I would be a hybrid.

I don't know. If it's just taking away the bad parts of autism, I'd like to be rid of the bad parts. But what if it took away my high IQ, my ability to structure databases, my sensitivity (and therefore skill) with making food taste good? What if I could no longer appreciate the really cool things in life, like the rhythm machinery makes as you're pumping your car with gas and the patterns like makes when it bounces off a reflective surface?

But I suppose if I grew up as a happy popular girl with lots of friends, getting a nice job as a secretary or something, watching "Sex in the City" and saving my money for expensive handbags, then I never would have known what I was missing in my current "unique" life, and I would have probably been happier.

Not.

It's worth nothing much.

I'd have the most awesome time without it. I'd just climb the social ladder, get my way, make everybody do what I want...

Sounds like the perfect life to me - all I want.

Autistic people can be 'evil' too though. People can always be 'evil'.

I can't imagine life differently; the grass isn't greener on the other side, just different. I'll take who I am for 600, Trebek.

Does one have to be one or the other? How about a combination?

I want to be myself. I am autistic and I don't want to change it in any way.

I choose myself the way I am.

You should title this thread "Do you reject yourself?" as that would be more appropriate to the purely hypothetical question being raised.

I'm NT, so of course, I'm going to say no, but if I could do one thing I would definitely get DXed again because my family and doctors don't believe I'm NT.
