I had a fairly embarrassing mishap a few weeks ago when I reintroduced myself to a women I've known for several years. I shook her hand, asked her what her name was and said nice to meet you all the while wondering what that strange look she was giving me meant. I finally realized something was up and asked her if we had met before since she seemed familiar but I think I just added insult to injury.

A lot ! Wink Last year I had a job for six months at the hospital, office stuff but with a lot of people (mostly doctors) often coming into my room (yes, it was VERY stressful). The following was very common: doctor A enters, I say "good morning", he says "good morning", he leaves the room, he comes again 10 minutes later and I say..."good morning" ! as if it was the first time I saw him, the preceeding meeting totally forgotten Rolling Eyes . The same with doctor B, C , D ecc. Many of them where neurologists so maybe they knew why I acted that way Wink

Yes, this happens to me absolutely all the time. It's one of the (many) reasons I was so hopeless at working in retail. Customer asks me if we have something in stock, I go and check the stockroom, and by the time I've grabbed the item and come back out onto the shop floor I've completely forgotten what the customer looks like and have to wander round the shop until s/he happens to recognise me again. I generally try to get around this problem by remembering something distinctive which they were wearing, like a colourful scarf or shoes, but I often forget what that looks like too - or if I see someone else with a similar item I get the two people confused.

I don't forget peoples' faces, but I do have a problem remembering names. I've frequently insulted people because I've forgotten their names but remember their dogs' names!

I hate to say it, but I am the SAME way! ESPECIALLY with my father's friends. I actually went to their marriage reception and, knowing they had a poor opinion of my memory, resolved to SHOCK them! I stored every blasted name and, as I passed each one going home, I said goodbye to each individually, and heard some comments indicating they were shocked. It was DOZENS of names. Today I can't remember a single one. But I didn't really WANT to remember. My memory is USUALLY far better.

Been there, done that, been embarrassed. Oddly enough, lots of people have this problem, so don't feel bad.

I had to learn techniques to make people 'stick' when I worked as a sales rep. If I could not 'catch' their faces, I looked for clothing, jewelry or other distinguishing things. Some women had spectacular manicures, so I'd remember them by their fingernails.

In my current job, I have a problem with 'lookalike' people. It just seems that certain people in certain walks of life are stamped from the same mold- and they look almost identical. It helps when they wear their name tags, but again, I have to use other characteristics- voice, facial hair, jewelry, etc. to sort them out.

I'd make a lousy politician, because I cannot make faces 'stick'.

Oh yes that's me, I will ask the same customer at my store if they need help. I realize it later when they look at me funny, and I might remember the shirt they were wearing instead of their face and then feel embarrassed. Oh well.

I remember faces very well, so much so I can often pick out a small childs parents. For some reason I have a bad habit of not remembering names. I will remember how I met them, where, information about them and their family but not their name.

Alot of times I can recognize that I might know someone but not recall from where....I try to avoid these people. I still don't know most of my co-workers names even though we wear name tags...we also have to wear uniforms, so it is hard to recall much but hair color or size. What is odd to me is that I can usually recall the names of the dogs we get but not the people I work with...whats up with that?

I have a terrible problem with this. I recently failed to recognize my neurologist! He caught me leaning in to read his name tag. I was so embarrassed. I told him my meds must be affecting my memory.

I have this problem all of the time, though, snice I was a child,

I'm face blind, but I've learned to recognize people's voices, body language etc. pretty well.
