This happens to me all the time: I'm running downtown, and as I pass people, they shout, "Run! Forest! Run!" Usually, it's men in their early 20s with their friends.
This annoys me. I don't know why.
I just prefer the sidewalk to the superfluous reciprocating mockery of a treadmill? Do I violate some unwritten rule by running in my jeans and t-shirt, instead of "athletic attire". I just run when I'm on foot and I feel like running. Do I really need a reason?

Anyway, sometimes I would yell back "You don't know where I'm going! You don't know that I need to run!", but that isn't really a comeback line. Lately, I just ignore them, and don't say anything at all, but I think I'm missing an opportunity for a creative comeback.

Do you have any good ideas for comeback lines? Please post them here.

Just flash them the peace/victory sign.

I haven't heard that for a while myself, but back when I had this long red beard and ran barefoot on the streets, I did hear it.

I think it's weird these people are quoting a movie that's well over 10 years old!
It's not really even a classic or cult film at that!

If you're gonna go for hand signals, there are better ones than that. Wink

The point of the movie is that awkward people who do un-mainstream things can both out-accomplish "normal" people in traditional fields and be finer human beings than they. Every weird thing Forrest does in the movie, including running, becomes a victory for him.

People will always be asses. The only way to win is to keep doing your own thing, and show yourself above them. Do what Forest did; keep running.

How about, "There's free beer down the street."

Then you'll have a crowd running with you like Forrest did.
