|
|
Hi, I've been trying to delete some stubborn files from my computer, to no avail. I've tried several including unlocker.
Basically, I need file deletion software that is:
1)Free
2) Easy to uninstall
3)Easy to use (I'm a "noob")
4)Can delete pretty much anything, including
files that display such error messages as
-"The action cannot be completed because the file is open in another program"
-"Access is denied"
-"File cannot be located"
-Etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I know there are programs that can kill it completely even while it's running, but I forget the name of it.
You can get Hijack This and take the process out of the boot list (msconfig helps as well), and then delete it in DOS (or sometimes Windows, but DOS is safer). You'll have to make sure you delete all the processes though, most viruses these days have downloader programs that will automatically reinstall the virus after it's deleted. Make sure you unplug yourself from the Internet to help prevent this.
I'd go into more detail, but it really depends on which virus you're dealing with. It also helps to try to find websites that have specific instructions for removing it. _________________ How wonderful to be so profound. |

Well, I'm a "noob." I don't know what 'attrib' and 'directory' mean. |

There is a program that will wipe files. It will even wipe those being used by a program file. It says reboot/restart and it does the wipe before very much of windows
starts up. Be careful this works very well and no software file tools will work to unwipe. that being said here is the link it's open source too.

Most of the linux' distributions, such as Ubuntu are free. But its overkill for the job as they are a good 700 megabytes. _________________ davidred writes...

| Do you have to delete the file or can you rename it, reboot, and then delete? |
