| I think I was obsessed with cats and animals from the womb. I'm 21 now and I don't see it stopping anytime soon. |

Min første sprog er Engelsk. Jeg har en danske tante.
I'm sorry, but I haven't really spoken Danish for a LONG time. I learned it around 1988. After I learned it, I called up my uncle in denmark and said "Kan Du gaette wem Jeg er?" He said "Nej.". Sadly though, it DOES succumb a bit to my German. The accent is distinctly Danish though, and I say I went to københavn.
BTW, Walking sticks ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phasmatodea ) here are very different from praying mantises ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Praying_mantis ). |

| Du klarer dig fint! Jeg er meget imponerede. Du må være dygtig til sprog hvis du kan snakke så meget dansk! |

My 7 year old with AS is completely obsessed with dinosaurs, has been every since he was 3 (or longer if you count Barney!). He knows details about them that even his teachers at school don't know. Last year he teacher let him help teach a lesson about them. He is also obsessed with just regular animals of all kinds. The things he can tell you about them kis amazing! And he shows no signs of any of these interests going away! _________________ NT mom of two ASD boys

When I was 8 I had only had one special interest. Football. Don't think I cared about anything else.
This faded a bit around 11 and music took over a bit later . When I was about 18 American football and martial arts took over.
For the last 13 or so years it has been computers and programming. Which is handy as it pays the mortgage. _________________ It’s a dangerous business going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to. |

One of the programmer / Aspie conversation rules is that conversations never end. It is perfectly acceptable to resume a conversation months later with the same person. Think of it as a saved state. It is a good sign that your son is very smart. Which means he will have a much easier time compensating.

| Pleased to hear this, as my son does the same thing - only he talks about pokemon. Every Saturday we go for a walk, and he picks up where we left off the week before! |

my 4 year old son is obsessed with music. he was playing a harmonica at 6-8 months of age, by age three he could make real notes on a trumpet and play some short things on piano. He just finished his first real semester of violin class and is WAY better than the other 4-5 year olds. I can't figgure how he picks the stuff up so fast as he doesnt ever look at his teacher. I suspect he has perfect pitch. He can figgure out any of his violin songs on piano and recorder also pretty quick. He also has, guitar, banjo, dulcimer, and various 'kids' percussion instruments that he just plays around with. Although, even though he is gifted at music, it may be an aspergers thing, but sometimes he is more interested in looking at instruments and books about instruments than he is playing them. And he always has to arrange his instruments the way he sees them depicted in a book or catalog.
he is also obsessed with safety, particularily car safety and child seats. |

I stopped doing that so much in highschool.
I used to do that ALL THE TIME though. Sometimes YEARS LATER I start where I left off! |

In the beginning, it was flashlights. We had a large trunk full of them. Couldn't go anywhere without buying a new flashlight when he was very small. When he was a toddler, he took things apart. The phone, the dishwasher.
It was insects next--he bcame quite knowledgeable. Later it was marine life--again, he could lecture on the subject of various types of jellyfish.
These days, he is a complete Star Trek aficionado. He has the technical manuals, he knows the ships.....he's also quite proficient with robotics and the computer. |
