Sometimes, for reasons beyond my understanding, people see me as a "protector". E.G. Small children hiding behind me from their irate mothers, or a co-worker lamenting to me that the office bully is going to step things up when I am not there during my vacation time, as if my very presence would make a difference. I am not sure why people think this, as it is very extreme for me to intervene, even if I want to. I have done it on rare occasion, but shield maiden, I am not.

So, does anyone else get cast in this very strange role?

absolutely, all my life.

I think it could be my sense of "justice". That I am fair and therefore trustworthy.

I also have seldom had to act, its as if my stoic presence is enough. Ive been running a bar for nearly 2 years and pretty much doing the security myself. I am a big guy but completely non threatening and I have always wondered how Id managed to make a group of angry russian males stop picking a fight with an equally aggresive group of turks by only using words and never getting beaten up myself.

But it is a good thing, isnt it?

Yes, and if i can help i usually have no problem with it,
can be hard though. I guess you have something that
"radiates" safety/protection to other people in a way,
you give off a "vibe" maybe, in lack of smarter words.
Might have something to do with something obvious like size/
that you are a little taller and bigger than average also,
caveman instinct-residue.

Yes, I think some people are naturally dominant, whether they choose to be or not. chin

I guess it's the male part of my personality, but I feel as though I am a protector, as I have in the past and will protect whomever I can in the future.

no, im more than willing to stand up for people if they need it but i havent seen it yet, also generally when people are arguing i tend to calmly step in with the truth as i see it, witch tends to confuse people rather than assure them

wow im impressed, the bar ive been going to generally solves disputes by throwing the drunkest of the participants into the car park, but it is slightly infamous

I have been a bit of a protector, though I have a bad memory of onw time I was walking home with my brother, sister and best friend and the bully of the school came up and attacked us. I was usualy afraid but this time I was brave and jumpedin front, he then pushed me out of the way and continued on to the others. He hurt all of them, including my 7 year old sister, and I did not have the courage to get up and confront him, that is one of my sadest moments, I was not strong enough.

Sad Sadly, if someone is bound and determined to hurt someone/something, they will do it and sometimes there isn't a whole lot we could do about it - at the time, anyway (post event, there is always CSI work - take pictures of the bruises, document the day, the time, the kid's name - file a complaint with the police - make a paper trail and encourage any victim of a bully to do the same, but at the same time, keep safe) . That you stood in between in the first place earns you a badge of honor in my book, by the way. You did what any reasonable person could do in a no-win situation.

Hopefully this little troglodyte isn't still going around hurting people, btw. Evil or Very Mad I have often told people it was a very good thing I didn't become a judge, because I would have been an infamous one when it came to bullies...
