Is it possible?
I want a desktop, but i simply do NOT want Vista!!!!!!!!!!!!
However, gaming compatibility is next to crap.
Anyway to get around this? _________________ You are not submitting the post

| The best way to do this would be to make a windows partition on the drive, and boot up and run windows whenever you want to play the windows-specific game. You can do that since Macs use intel chips nowadays. Lots of people do that so I'm sure it's easy to google instructions on what to do. |

^What he said. In Applications->Utilities you can find BootCamp, which gives instructions on installing XP or Vista on your Intel Mac. It comes out of the box prepared to do this and gives detailed instructions, so I think it should walk you through the process pretty well. Mak sure to put enough space on your Windows partition for all the games you want. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

| Why not just play Mac games on Mac? You can't have your cake and eat it, too. I don't think it would be worthwhile to attempt what you're suggesting. |

But you can, and Apple has recently taken steps to make it quite easy. Many people have multi-boot systems so that their computer can start up in different operating systems. I'm currently in the process of setting up a Mac/Linux dual boot, and Macs come preconfigured to work out really well with a Windows dual boot. Applications->Utilities->BootCamp Manager, and it walks you through it step-by-step if you want Windows and MacOSX on the same machine. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

Why not just use a Windows machine to begin with? |

The cool thing nowadays with Macs is that you CAN have your cake and eat it too. Both windows and Mac OS can run natively on them so it's a simple matter of switching between the two. I think people who do this prefer to use Windows for the Windows-only games and programs, and Mac for everything else. The reason they do this is they prefer the Mac operating system for every day tasks but have the luxury of switching to windows for windows-only stuff. |

Interesting.
But wasn't the whole point of MacIntosh to diverge from Windows and be a Windows-alternative? I mean, what sense would it make in world of computers to have these rival OS merge? |

They aren't merging, just people have the option of using either depending on which is moreo suitable for a particular task. For similar reasons, I am currently going through the hassle of installing Linux on my Mac. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

Well if you want to play games it's generally not recommended to get a mac. Not only is the OS horrible for games but the hardware is as well, the Mac Minis, MacBooks and lower iMac models are almost incapable of gaming at all. The MacBook Pros overheat when gaming, and the high end iMac has a 8800 GS so you can't play games at high resolutions which it's a 24" so that looks terrible playing at a low resolution. The only decent mac for gaming is the Mac Pro if you get a 8800 GT in it, However the issue with this is that no one in their right mind would pay $3000 for a computer with a 8800 GT, for that money you can get a highend PC with a GTX 280, maybe even three of'em. |

I'd never recommend someone buy a mac if their first priority is gaming since yes, you can get better or as good for way cheaper in a windows machine. It's just nice that people who choose to use a mac for other reasons at least have some options now for gaming and aren't quite as restricted in what they can play. |

The Apple Macintosh, with GUI, was released in January 1984, and Windows 1.1 didn't limp onto the scene until November 1985.
I've never seen Windows as a rival to any of the other operating systems I've used. I just see it as a passing fad, supported far beyond it's expected lifetime by immoral business practices. _________________ Phases of a project: (1) Exultation. (2) Disenchantment. (3) Confusion. Is Windows the only operating system left NOT based on UNIX? Mac OSX, Linux, BSD, and Solaris are all Unix-derived.
And I wish you were right about it being a passing fad, but it seems too entrenched to fall out of fashion anytime soon. _________________ WAR IS PEACE

Doesn't Bootcamp let you do this?
Run WinXP in bootcamp...
Also, depending on the types of games you're talking about, you can probably get emulators and other platform versions. _________________ Gavin.
