It's pretty clear there are a great deal of PC-Users among Aspergians and Autistics. What I'm curious about is what kind of PC systems people are using.
At the moment I'm using an Ubuntu standalone PC. Had a gut-full of Windows frustrating antics...
Anyway if you're a PC User, let us know what you are using and have a discussion about it. |

Windows is one of the WORST systems ever developed. It is the ONLY system to have:
1. improper locking
2. no memory management
3. forced failure
and STILL manage to survive more than a few years. The ONLY one!!!! Perhaps EVER in ALL of history.
I have used:
Apple dos
Apple Prodos
TRS 80
Comodore Pet
CP/M
COS 310
RT-11
MSDOS/PCDOS
Windows 3.1
Windows 3.11
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows NT4
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows VISTA
TSX-11
RSTS/E
AIX
HP UX
SOLARIS
SUNOS
SCO
COHERENT
Minix
Linux
Xwindows
The order IS significant in that ones before 3.11 at least didn't have to worry about #1. Ones from 3.1 on are the only ones that REALLY need #2. Yet, out of this list, windows is the ONLY one to have ALL 3 problems! ALSO, each one from 3.1 on is supposed to multitask. ONLY those from TSX-11 on have true(preemptive) multitasking. |

| I use Windows XP and I like it a lot. Very user friendly IMO. My mom however, uses Windows Vista and says it's the worst one she's ever used. I don't know of anyone that sells Windows XP computers anymore, they all have Vista, so I can only hope that my computer lasts a veeeeeeeeery long time. |

| I have Windows Vista Premium. The only problem I've had with it is I can't record audio from my speakers with Cam Studio. |

Hey, why isn't Mac OS on here? Just because we're Aspies, doesn't mean we have up-to-date computer systems.
I got mine 3 years ago, a few months before the Mac PC came out. |

| I have Vista, didn't get a choice as it's a new computer. My Aspie uncle has a computer that somehow has two operating systems, I think 2 hard drives one loads with Vista one with Windows XP. He always raves about it. I have no idea how to do something like that but I did prefer XP. There are a few features of Vista I like, but mostly it sucks and I hate what they've done to Microsoft Word. |

Shelby, thats called a dual boot. Its also possible to do triple boots, but much after that it gets to be a load of work. Dual booting is easy.
If you wish to go back to xp and you have an old machine, you can install it on your computer.. possibly. You'll need the registration key. These are often on labels on the sides of store bought machines.
Here is a link about dual booting xp and vista, but if you want to play, i almost recomend you try a nice linux like Ubuntu.

This should work, but I have never done it. With Ubuntu its a little easier. Lots of posts here discuss it, as does the ubuntu forum. Take care in doing it, though its not tricky. _________________ davidred writes...

Windows XP and 98SE.
Windows XP has all the bugs out of it and works with most current hardware. If the component was made before 2007 i wouldn`t trust it with Vista. However Vista is a remarkably innovative OS that i might get soon due to increased networking capatibilities. All the new programs coming out and its trusty HD Image copying software. I can also virtual PC all over os`s. |
