US teen decapitated by roller coaster

A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he entered a restricted area at a US park.A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he entered a restricted area at a US park.
Witness claims victim jumped fences to retrieve a hat.

A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he hopped a pair of fences and entered a restricted area at a Georgia amusement park, authorities says.

Saturday at Six Flags Over Georgia officials are uncertain why the unidentified 17-year-old from Columbia, South Carolina, scaled two 1.8-metre fences and passed signs that said the restricted area was both off-limits and dangerous to visitors, spokeswoman Hela Sheth said in a news release.

Authorities were investigating reports from witnesses who said the teenager jumped the fences to retrieve a hat he lost while riding the Batman roller coaster, said Cobb County police Sergeant Dana Pierce. Three security guards were keeping visitors away from the ride on Saturday.

Police said the ride was going full-speed when the teenager was struck. The ride's top speed is 80kph, according to the Six Flags website.

No one riding on the roller coaster was injured, Sheth said. The teenager's friend also entered the restricted area but was not injured, Pierce said.

The teenager and his parents were at the park with a group from the Oakey Spring Baptist Church near Springfield, South Carolina, police said.

This sad story shows that one should not take loose items onto a coaster. and Off limits means don't go there! lets hope this never happens again.

I'm sorry, but I can't feel bad for this kid. He died over pure stupidity. How much you want to bet his parents sue the theme park?

Pretty stupid, yeah, but apparently this is the second time someone has died of a head injury in the restricted area surrounding this ride:

A 58-year-old park worker, Samuel Milton Guyton of Atlanta, was killed May 26, 2002. Guyton was in a restricted area on a platform when he was kicked in the head by 14-year-old girl on the front car of the ride. The girl was hospitalized with a leg injury.

Even if it was clearly marked and they shouldn't have been there, the fact that two people have made this mistake is a hint that putting oneself in danger near this ride isn't as difficult as it ought to be.

I think all any good lawyer needs to do to collect in this case is to point out that security into the restricted area was demonstrably weaker than security where they keep the money...

Lots of people in the USA don't care about safety, all they care about are their wants. They just wanna do certain things for the sake of pleasure. If I dropped my hat on the electrified subway tracks, I'd never risk my life attempting to retrieve my hat even if I was a quick person.

Now as for that brainless kid who died trying to retrieve his hat at a restricted area near the roller coaster, I don't think it'd make sense for his family to sue Six Flags because the company DIDN'T kill him. The kid didn't pay attention to the large warning signs posted on the huge fences by the company. He died because of stupidity.....Shame on him.
