We were at the flea market today, wow the looks I got were crazy, people like pitied me, one lady apologized to my mother how hard it must be to raise somebody with MR! I was like wtf, I'm not mentally retarded ughhh! The heat was making me even ten times worse then I already was, and it drove me insane, after I had some food, and sat in the shade for a bit, my brain calmed down thank gosh. After that, the looks still continued like usual, but at least people werent saying stuff like one kid asked his mother what was wrong with me, and shes like "oh honey, shh, thats not polite to say that out loud, i think shes very mentally challenged, a very disabled young lady and then smiled at me" I was like wow Rolling Eyes . Anyways does heat make any of you more autistic Question

Wow, that's quite extreme! Shocked
Well, I don't mind the heat very much. But when it is very cold I do seem to become more autistic as such. Last night, for example, I was at the beach with only a t-shirt on and jeans and was freezing cold as I was down there from 5pm-5am. I was stimming like crazy, my speech was incomprehensible, I was very avoidant and I kept hurting myself or getting others to hurt me. (When I'm overwhelmed I like to feel pain, and I wanted my strong friend to hurt me badly. He did do it, I have terrible bruises and cuts all over me today).
Some people who I didn't know came along to the beach party, and they saw me and thought I was insane. Unfortunately due to their drunkeness it turned into an unpleasant situation where they were mocking and degrading me. Fortunately for me, my friend who cares for me a lot when I get bad came and told them off and helped me.
When it is quite hot I do get a bit more quiet and withdrawn, but it is the cold that affects me more.

Not so much heat, but humidity definitely makes my brain want to just shut right down.

Not to mention it makes everyone in the house much more irritable Mad

Oh, people can be so rude if they don't know what somebody else is like. I really hate that.

Well, I'm totally affected by heat.

I just get totally... I forgot what it's called I feel as if everything is just extremely bright and I can't really see, too loud, uncomfortable, I can't keep track of what's going on and where I am, I can't talk straight and do anything because I feel so funny.

Disorientated, that's it! I feel extremely disorientated. I can only concentrate on doing 1 thing at a time in that situation, walking OR looking around OR talking.

I fail to notice how people react to me usually. I don't know if somebody ever has commented or looked at me funny when this happened.

(I didn't know they had flea markets elsewhere, cool!)

During a hot spell you do get that tired feeling. But I think that's just normal. Nothing to do with autism. When I am overheated, it is very difficult for me to sit still, I have to get up and move around to simply feel the breeze on my face.

I'm extremely sensitive to heat, and it brings on panic attacks occasionally. At the same time however, I think the heat actually makes me less autistic, as it makes me too exhausted to show many such tendencies. Weird combo, I know. Confused

I don't think the way those people treated you was right. Kudos for keeping your manners. I'd be tempted to go into sarcasm overdrive :D anyway, I really don't have that problem with heat. It just tends to make me lethargic and sleepy. But I live in Alaska, so I don't get much heat to begin with xD

Perhaps you weren't acclimatised to it? I've noted an increase in symptoms when the weather quickly changes from hot to cold and back again, and once I've gotten used to a single temperature, I seem to even out.

People like pointing out differences in others, for some reason or another.

Wow thats interesting, because my mother said the exact thing, she was like i think the effect of the weather changing made you that way, no the actual weather... very interesting thanks for pointing that out.

Yes very much so, and also about being acclimatised when I went to the Caribbean I found the heat made me so tired I had to keep sleeping during the day and through the night and then I'd be up early morning for the cool, I could only be out for short amounts of time. I also find it hard on the very rare occasions that its really hot over hear that my behaviour changes.
Also you should ignore comments from 'people' they know nothing.
And you're so lucky you get flee markets.

Actually to some degree yes, I find that lately as it's been really cold I go to the shower and turn it up really hot like I usually do and even warm water ends causing horrible pain. Or maybe this relates to a different phenomenon.

How can you tell if you're becoming 'more autistic' ? I dislike extreme heat and when I'm out in it, it causes all sorts of problems with my body, makes me weaker and less able to focus, etc. I equate it to a form of overstimulation (perhaps causing a 'literal' meltdown). But I don't think think I have any actual brain changes when exposed to extreme heat, other than fatigue.

???

I think that the heat or cold makes you uncomfortable and makes you forget about trying to act normal. Then your austistic ways start to expose itself more.
