Where does the myth stem from that autistic children are usually unusually attractive?

And what does it mean, this 'unusually attractive'? That description is not very informative and probably of quite subjective nature.

I haven't heard yet that the same is said about autistic adults either.

Yes, it's true into adulthood as well. It's nature's way of making up for the lack of social skills, to get potential partners to pursue you.

What? that's the way it worked for me...

I believe it's true, because people comment that I was an unusually beautiful baby, and also I once saw a baby so beautiful that I was mesmerized, and a couple years later I was told that she had been born autistic.

I find that some people generally say that when it is obviously not true (as if they are picking the most obvious thing about you to insult, your looks). A lot of good-looking people seem to be terribly insecure about the way they look.

My face has been known to induce seizures. I was, however, very cute as a toddler, if I might say so myself. Wink

I have heard that from other aspies but never from an NT. I think it must be similar to: you never tell a mother her baby is ugly.

well nobody is gonna say that somebody's child looks unattractive or ugly NT or Not. That would be kinda disrespectful.

The myth comes from autistic infants having unusually large cranial circumferences. This creates a ratio that triggers instinctual ideas of cuteness.

I guess I am the only human who thinks all babies are hideously ugly.

I'm not sure about this unusual attraction. Running keeps my body looking good but my face is unusual due to AS. People always ask if I'm ok because I look really sad or angry when I'm actually showing no emotion. Other than always looking pissed or depressed I wouldn't know if I could be attractive in the face because I haven't bothered to get rid of my acne.

Well, my mother and some others said I was cute/handsome, and one then famous star supposedly said it. They OFTEN say such things though.

Personally, I would never really try to judge my own sex, but I would think I am average. Certainly not ugly.

People are constantly freaking out about how cute my kids are, and one has AS and the other has PDD-NOS. Now, I think they're the most adorable kids on the planet, but of course, I am their mother and I am biased!

Honestly, I don't think attractiveness and AS necessarily go together, though the people on WP who have posted pics are overall quite attractive.

I think the sexiest thing of all is honesty and intelligent thought.

I was very cute until around the age of 7, at which time I morphed into an obese depressed space cadette. I was not attractive at all after that.
