I am extremely positive I have OCD. My grandpa has it and I would not be surprised if I have it. I didn't really start thinking about it until this year, and my friends are all also positive I have it. I've been thinking about it, and I've been displaying some of the symptoms since I was two. I would get out all the washclothes in the house and fold them up into neat little piles. And when I was four, I would take all the videos, set them up in the living room (in ABC order) and pretend it was a "video store". I did this kind of stuff a ton back then and I'm no different today. I think I can safely say I've got the most organized closet in the neighborhood, as well as for DVDs and books. I love organizing, but I'm not huge on cleaning. But if I have to, I will work hard and not complain about it. I've also made tons and tons of pointless lists (ones that take at least five hours to make). You should've seen my Christmas list a few years ago. I had an entire database for it and my mom said that a lot of people were extremely impressed with it at the store when she was Christmas shopping.

I'm also a total germaphobe. One example would be at a party I went to in January. Me and the other teens were all upstairs playing Guitar Hero when someone spilled their sherbert drink all over the carpet. He got a used towel and cleaned it up a bit and then sat back down in that spot. I was the only one who thought it was totally disgusting. And once, my Pomeranian peed on my leg and I just freaked out big time. I wanted to strangle that dog so badly (The only thing holding me back was that I didn't want to get in trouble and go to jail.). I also carry around a bottle or Purell in my purse and use it often. (I used half of it at the theme park the other day.) I always thought I was just protecting myself against getting sick, but if I think about it, well, that's not really all that normal. And if I find something completely and utterly disgusting, I just freeze up. I can't even talk if it's bad enough, which probably happens once every week or two.

So what do you think? If anyone does ask me, I typically just say I do now since I, and everyone else, is very positive of it. What are your opinions on this? Thanks!

It sounds like you might have it. If your habits interfere with your ability to function, you should consider seeing a doctor.

You probably do have OCD, I thought that most of us with AS have some form of it, I have done the videos myself, I think I have OCD often making things just right. But my problem is if I start getting into this behavior I lose control, I try to make everything perfect and I try to find a place for everything, and my body can not keep up with the speed, groups and perfect placement. I have spent hours trying to organise a pantry, I wasn't eating or drinking and I was getting a headache from obbsesive thoughts, I ignore the mess as I can not find a perfect placement. Does that mean that mean you can figure out wher everything goes, I was organising my wardrobe the other day and I could not figure out a perfect place for everything so I organised it; formal, black, scout stuff, and then since I could not find a perfect patern for the res I left it and felt I wasted the whole time. Any way did you hear that suposidly our immune systems are weakening as we are not exposed to as much germs, I am a bit clumsy, though I try I always spill something on my clothes and I feel terible like I have tainted an area when I accidently spill something in a room. I see paterns everywhere but what frustrates me is when you can not fit something into a patern.

You actually played Guitar Hero, and touched those tacky greasy, slick and shiny plastic surfaces already cross-contaminated by other people's sweat and all the God-knows-what they had on their fingers from touching their dogs and their shoes and themselves in the restroom without washing!?! Just imagine all the reeking slimy microbes crawling all over a person's body after they've handled a group bacteria-dump like that! Eeeeeeewww!!! You really should start carrying a stash of latex exam gloves in your purse for things like that - don't forget how many faceless filthy strangers have touched those shopping cart handles...

Well, at work the other week, I had accidentally broken a bowl after I realized how filthy the water was after washing it. I panicked and the bowl smashed onto the floor. The other workers came back and I told them it was a complete accident. They accepted this and were perfectly fine with it. But I kept thinking about it and dwelling on it to myself for the rest of the day.

Yeah, I've been the same way lots of times! I often put off eating and drinking because I feel like I have to finish doing whatever it was I was doing. I really need to gain weight, too, so that's not good. I used to organize the pantry when I was younger, but when my mom messed it all up in front of me, I got really, really upset and I haven't really wanted to do it since. I'm sure that when I move out, I'll be excited to organize it.

Well, that definitely made me grossed out! (Not kidding.) Anyway, sometimes I don't let it get in the way if I really want to have fun, but it often does. Like, I will no longer go swimming in my neighborhood's pool after seeing frogs swimming around in it as well as dead flies. I still go there to tan though. As for shopping carts, I don't touch them. Even if I brush up against them, it bothers me. Luckily, a lot of the stores around here now have those anti-germ cart wipes scattered around.

I have some slight OCD tendancies, but most of them I can ignore without much suffering...especially things like sorting and stuff...if I'm really bored I can sort for quite some time, but usually I get too overwhelmed and discouraged and lazy and just give up. For example, while sorting HP Lovecraft stories, do I sort them by written date, or publication date? I just can't decide @_@

I have this weird thing where I don't use hand sanitizer because it doesn't feel like I'm really washing my hands...I need a sink and a bar of soap (and a towel is always nice).

If you really want to protect yourself against getting sick, exposing yourself to germs is a good way to boost your immune system Wink

I wouldn't recommend jumping into anything head first, though Confused (whether literally or metaphorically)

I would love to go swimming with frogs =)

I used to have an oscar (huge fish), and I always thought it would be awesome to get a little wading pool for him in the summer and hop in with him. Of course, he'd probably freak out, but when I'd come up to his tank, he was always excited to see me.

Well, I've never really liked being sick. I was sick constantly when I was a little kid from day care and I'm still not over that. I'm still very fearful of getting sick. It's to the point where everytime I walk by someone, I always think they're gonna cough on me. And when they do, I panic and immediately get out the Purell. It's not a fun process, that's for sure.

The frogs here are all coming from the lake, which is directly behind the neighorhood pool. They first hop into the wading pool and eventually all come over to the main pool and start swimming around. They also go even past the pool onto the main street, where they eventually get run over. Is it really so hard for those pesky frogs to stay in the lake?

You don't act like Adrian Monk do you? It wouldn't matter if you did.

I've actually never seen Monk before. I think in this case, it'd probably be a good thing if I didn't watch it. Wink

Probably.

Monk is a very extreme case. Mostly an exaggeration of OCD.

Yeah, I don't think I should see it then. Maybe something more realistic would be better.
