Blah I don't watch that one anymore. I sometimes keep soaps on for background noise. I don't really pay much attention to them....I just like the soothing glow that they give off when they are on my TV....I usually end up falling asleep to them.

There is/was an autistic character on All my Children named Lily. She was supposed to have an "autism spectrum disorder" never specified which one, probably HFA. The actress who played her spoke in a very monotone voice, and did an alright job of pretending she was autistic for a teenage girl anyway. The character was terrified of the color red, hated loud noises and couldn't be touched by anyone. She was also had the obsessive interests thing down pretty good....if I remember she liked mysteries, and math. When she was upset she would be non-verbal, have meltdowns, rock....although she didn't really stim unless she was having a meltdown. I think she's off the show now, and they had her go off to college. She was able to hold a job before she left......

I can't say she was completely realistic, but it's been done before. However if Autism Speaks has input, I have a feeling this child's autism will be protrayed as a disease that needs to be cured, rather than the way AMC did it and had Lily eventually go off to college, and try to live a semi-normal life....she wasn't "cured," she's still autistic, just trying to adapt......

Yeah, I posted about the DAYS storyline... I doubt that we'll see much of the kid... I heard that it was just to focus on the parents and marriage...

and I recently discovered AMC's Lily... but I was bothered that she kept saying "I have autism spectrum disorder" ... seemed really lame to keep saying that...

Today on General Hospital a dr was talking to Spinelli (minor character seen quite a bit) about his having a social disorder and obsession with certain subjects and... the way the dr was going on it sounds like Spinelli has AS. The dr said more tests will be needed though to find out. I'm interested to see how the storyline plays out and how accurate it will be.

Soap operas suck and the way this may play out is intriguing.
