After waiting for quite a while I finally got my new telescope.

I'm just waiting for a nice clear night to do some star gazing. Does anyone here have a similar scope or any sort of scope? I would be interested to see if many here have the same interest in astronomy. What are some of your favourite objects to view?

| I love astronomy, but unfortunately live in Las Vegas, so you can't see anything in the sky but the moon due to all the lights. Looking at the moon only got boring after awhile so gave my scope to my niece who lives in a small town and can use it more. |

Haha it's always cloudy when you get a new scope! I too have a five inch telescote but it's a SCT, I never used a Newtonian before. My favorite object would have to be Jupiter and it's moons right now. _________________ The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea. |

I love astronomy and live about 150 miles south of the adirondacks (I live in CNY). It is one of the darkest places in the world in terms of light pollution.
Its amazing the difference in the amount of stars one can see in most places in the world, then go to this 6,ooo,ooo acer patch of protected wilderness and see the sky then. The edge of the milky way galaxie is just sooo clearly defined. Its a sight I will never forget. _________________ DX'ed with HFA as a child. You should look for the Andromeda Galaxy with your naked eyes with such a dark place! It's one of the farthest objects you can see unaided. I love to just stare at it when I can. _________________ The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea. |

I have a Meade AR6 Refractor.
Love the thing. Just need clear skies ...which are hard to come by in florida.
Just wait till you get into astrophotography |

I was actually considering astrophotography but cannot afford the expensive cameras. An alternative is an adapter available to connect my standard digital camera to the scope. Im not sure how well these adapters work and I'm curious.
On another note, I hope for clear skies somewhat soon as Jupiter will be the closest it will get for some time on July 9th. I'm hoping to hone my skills enough to view the red spot.
