Why is it that one cannot have a scientific opinion, because they are considered big headed or know all. But it is ok to have negative opinions, bad-mind and joke about other people because they do not comply to a narrow minded void of what a human should be. I am not only talking about what NTs think about aspies and geeks but about other NT and other NT social groups.

I was not happy about two of my workmates attitude about chavs who like to bling up their old bangers instead of buying a new car. I said let them have their pride in their vehicles, let it be.

People fear being discovered and outed as ignorant, bigotted, or just plain wrong. A person with education, a critical mind, and scientific training is anathema to them. This is why mediocrity in government, education, and the workplace is whitewashed as "Feel-Good Curriculums", "Affirmative Action", and "Team-Building" policy.

Excellence is also feared by leadership, especially when those who display excellence are not "properly" indoctrinated into toeing the leadership's line. This is why intellectuals are among the first to be executed, expelled, or sacked whenever a revolutionary change takes place.

More commonly, people generally want to feel some superiority to others while at the same time feeling secure in their homogeneity, so while intellectualism is derided, derision of others for their differing opinions and tastes is acceptable. For instance, I drive a japanese hybrid gas/electric car, and am often the butt of insults and innuendo by people who drive petrol-guzzling trucks. I also live in the USA, and some of my neighbors and relatives snub me for driving a foreign car, or for being a "tree-hugging environmentalist" (which I am not).

I refuse to march in lock-step with those jack-booted, brown-shirted neanderthals who could not tell the difference between a bottle of late-vintage Reisling and a bottle of lager past its expiry date if someone posted a flashing neon sign on each.

Stay alert. Trust no one. Play dumb. Document everything. Keep your resumé updated.

Incidentally, I march in lockstep with no one - and as far as I'm concerned, a bottle of late-vintage Riesling is so much spoiled grape juice (and the lager is even worse. Voluntarily drink fermented barley-and-hops soup? Euuuccchhh!).

This is probably one reason I was so hated in high school. I was always saying whatever scientific theories that I had come up with on my own. Well, since they were my own theories, they probably weren't considered scientific. They were kinda crack-pot theories in fact. Laughing

As far as science goes, it too is governed by herd instinct.

I'm quite a Fortean, so I doubt everybody.

i don't mind if people bling them out if they aren't stupid about it. if you want to slap on big rims and drop your car a few inches, go ahead, but don't be stupid and forget about camber plates or your tires will be off camber, which will cause them to wear unevenly and have less grip (saw this today in a dodge magnum). it also irritates me when someone slaps an obnoxiously loud muffler on their car with no supporting work. sure, your car is louder, but it's not faster.

I drive a car and I feel like when I walk I'm dead
When I park and get out I can't keep my head

Trying to navigate around the cars coming in and out
The car park's so full of cars I scream and shout

If only me drove a car it would be okay
Because everybody does I never get my way

I'm a car driver through and through
I moan and wheeze and am never fulfilled

scientific opinion is only unproven theory. If proved false, that's one thing, but until it's subjected to scientific inquiry, who knows?
