Since college let out about 2 weeks ago, I have been having trouble falling asleep at night. In fact, the problem is so bad that I can only fall asleep at 4 AM. When school was in session, I was falling asleep at 12:30, even though my dad wanted me to be in bed at 11 PM. I am 20, by the way, and this expected of me even after I have reached the age of majority. I just don't feel like I am able to fall asleep as easy.

I understand I usually want to stay up later (about 3, fall asleep earlier that 4) on Saturday nights (due to that being the only night the smegheads at Adult Swim want to put on any reasonable concentration of anime). However, I have been staying up until 4 AM most nights. I get off the computer by 2:30 AM and cannot fall asleep until, you guessed it, 4 AM!!. This has resulted in me waking up at 12:30 or so on weekdays and weekends.

The only reason I think I really have to support me staying up as late as I am is that the hours from 10:30 - 2:40 is the only time I really get to myself, as my sisters don't get off until 10:30 PM. It is an escape from both the gangsta mentality of my sisters and the extreme conservatism of my father.

Do any of you have some helpful advice? Anything to assuage my guilt?

Nope. You just gotta do what you gotta do.

Try telling your dad you've tried to sleep earlier, and let him know it's nice to have some quiet time away from your sisters. Does he know you're on the spectrum? If he does, then let him know it may be a part of it, cause most people I've ever spoken to on the spectrum seem to be more night owls, less people and such.

The same happens here with once college is out for the summer and I usually go to bed at 12:00am or 11:00pm depends mostly on me though. I do the same at Mason as well and I have got used I guess by now.

I stay up late and get up late. I have arranged my few priorities to make this sleep schedule workable, since it is what I prefer.
