I'm training to be a nurse and finding it so so hard. It's all the really silly stuff I can't deal with like not knowing what I'm doing from one day to the next (Im definately a scheduled person!) and its so very badly organised. I really struggle for money and I have had to have some unavoidable days off during my most recent work placement which the place has not been very nice about and have said I am taking the p**s.
I want to do this job but I feel really down with myself cos I know everyone is going through the same thing and they seem to manage, whereas I ended up in tears the other day in front of people I was working with (not patients thankfully). I knew when I started I'd have to try harder than some cos a lot of the skills are not things that come naturally to me but so far I have had mostly good reports I'm just really really struggling.
Ps I appreciate this really has nothing at all to do with this board/site but i feel very comfortable here and would welcome some peoples advice plus I noticed a couple of posts on here from people who are already nurses. |

Working in social services, I find that the lack of organization and logical decisions of the company, as well as the "unknown" factor of how the clients or staff would act one day to the next...or what I would need to deal with on that shift...were the hardest things to cope with. I could handle the tasks and recall information to do my job but the little things created so much anxiety. I don't have any solutions....just saying..."yeah, it sucks". _________________ Just because one plane is flying out of formation, doesnt mean the formation is on course....R.D.Lang

Maybe you should consider another kind of career...in Nursing, each day that you work will be different because people all have diffent problems and different needs. Diseases and illnesses do not appear the same in each individual...just look at how unique and different we all are on the Autistic Spectrum. No two people are exactly alike!
In addition, in Nursing, one must be prepared for the "unexpected"...after all, accidents happen and as a Nurse, you must be ready, willing and able to spring into action when needed.
As for career advice...check out the "Job and Career" reference section in your local library...and see what kind of jobs and careers interest you. That's the first place to begin before you jump into a career change. |

Thanks for the replies, it’s always good to know that someone can relate.
I am thinking of looking into a new career unfortunately I have to finish my course, I have a long history of quitting everything and could do with a qualification of some sorts and after this I will not be able to afford to study so it would need to be something I could do unqualified.
I dunno, I will have to see what happens I think, just good to vent some steam. |
