Would you ever give up aspergers?

I would not I would keep it only the greatest have it.

Asperger Syndrome (AS) is not what you might think
it is. Most people with this disorder lead healthy
lives. Notable persons that you many know of who had
aspergers include: Joseph Erber, Albert Einstein,
Thomas Jefferson, Wolfgang Mozart, Alexander Graham
Bell, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Isaac Newton,
Ludwig van Beethoven, Bill Gates, Kevin Mitnick,
Bobby Fischer, Bob Dylan, John Nash...

I agree with you with not give up AS because it is a part of me and my talents would not be the same. I'm also living a healthy lifestyle with my accomplishments so far like going to college and doing other things that regular people can do as well.

Being autistic is what I am, not who I am. I would give it up if it meant I could live a normal life.

I probably have it, but don't know for sure. For me, my AS traits except for meltdowns are mostly positive, but mostly I'm just obcessed with knowing for sure, and if I do find out then eventually I wouldn't care anymore.

I'll never give up my Asperger's! I have a gift for rememebring details (if I devote my time to it) of many things. If there is anything I wish I had, it would be the ability to read non-verbal clues.

It depends on what day you ask me. Most of the time I would say no, but right now I need a new job so.....I'm not exactly thrilled with my AS.

Most of it? No way. But I'd give up the sensory overload quite gladly, and I'd like to be a bit more socially competent.

Me, myself, and AS topic

I could not amputate my Asperger's without giving up that which makes me human and keeps me alive. Forget the cure. a four letter words that spells d-e-a-t-h.

For the most part? No, I wouldn't. There are some aspects of it I could do without, naturally - I like being the largely solitary type I am (I can manage socially, but being by myself is far more preferable), but a bit more social competence and the ability to put a cap on some of the things I say might not go amiss.

Balancing that out against the other aspects of it that allow me to absorb loads of knowledge, though... I'll keep my AS, I reckon.

Thomas Jefferson was a skilled socialite and politician...

Where'd you get your research?

I don't know, the jury's out on this one. Due to my AS, I am good at memorising facts, concentrating on one thing for a long time, and I have many positive personality traits such as dedication, loyalty and honesty. I also notice small things that most people tend to overlook, and I am able to take time to appreciate the world around me. I wouldn't want to lose any of the above.

But AS is a double-edged sword. I am almost constantly lonely, I can't maintain friendships, I am socially inept and cannot do really simple things that most people learnt when they were 9. I am also physically clumsy, so much so that it's beyond a joke.

Would I have been happier if I was NT? Probably, but I don't know for sure. An NT me wouldn't really be me, it would be someone else. So I'll stick with my AS, though it's not as if I have a choice. Wink

...may have had AS. I have no idea why Bob Dylan is on the list.

It's how my mind has been since I was born, to have my AS just go away would make me lose any sense of knowing myself for who I am.
