|
|
| I've decided to buy a weighted blanket, and I'd like to do it without spendingtoo much money. That looks to be difficult, unfortunately. I've looked at various sites and have found them to be overwhelming. Not only is there significant variability in price, but different sites are saying opposite things. One site says that fine grade rock is good, while poly beads aren't good for weights above seven pounds. Another site says fine grade rockis possibly dangerous and shouldn't be used. All of their blankets use poly beads for all weights. One significant factor which I do understand is that poly beads spread the weight out evenly, which sounds nice. Does anyone have personal experience buying a blanket from these types of sites? Does any of this actually matter, or should I just go for the cheapest one available? I know some people here own weighted blankets, so any input on the different types of material would be welcome. |

| My guess is the plastic beads could be dangerous in a fire situation (ever seen plastic burn?). As to the rocks I dunno why they could be bad. I'm also interested in getting one of these for myself. |

| I got a weighted blanket for my daughter from Salt Of The Earth. It has poly beads but its only 4lbs and they say the rock is better for the heavier blankets. The blanket has the weights baffled in the center of the blanket and no weight on the end or sides of the blanket. She used it for awhile and it helped her sleep but its too hot to use right now. |

Is it weird for adults to use these? I'm looking but all the ones I see have like a child's print on them, I just want a plain color blanket to help me sleep as well. Does anyone know any sites? |

You can also make your own.
This market is aimed at children and it is set on "Gouge the parents for every penny."
I went the weighted vest route myself, but I went with an exercise vest intended for gaining muscle. It does the same thing as a specially made weighted vest. Also, not only does it come in adult sizes, but it only costs a 3rd of the price of the ones made especially for this kind of thing. _________________ "I am to misbehave" - Mal

seconded what lastcrazyhorn said.
am use a rug that is as long as self, and is extreme heavy weight-as a weighted blanket, try using rugs if have one/more and change rugs to see how much pressure helps.
am also use the matress, but it depends on how much pressure self needs as might find a matress to heavy, and it isn't one that can be used whilst doing other things. _________________ [LFAutie]

Thanks for the advice.
My price range is about $200 but I can see myself making one myself because for the larger sizes the price skyrockets! My Grandmother can sew pretty well I'll ask her for help. Using a rug sounds like a great idea too! I'm definitely going to try that.
I used to sleep under my mattress as a child but now that I'm older I don't think I can still do that. _________________ The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea. |
