So I mimick like the noise fireworks, and mimick registers, mimick walkie talkie sounds... meaning I love making the sound come out of my own mouth, and every now and then thats all your hear come out of my mouth, different noises of different appliances, or machines, or anything. Anybody else mimick noises or sounds they've heard, not words, just sounds?

Well, I don't. But both my little brothers(AS and ADD) do that all the time, and do it really well, which I'm incredibly jealous of(that would have made school so much funnier). Sometimes they make noises which sound just like my phone ringing, which is funny until about the fifth or sixth time.

Animal noises... I was told that I could do a wonderful fox, unfortunately I cannot remember what a fox sounds like. Swishing or ticing noices... however I rarely actually repeat them in public anymore. I like the sounds and the feeling of making the sounds.

I'm a mimic but it's mainly voice or song I can do.

I like to mimic bird noises, and jet turbine whistles... Actually like music I can get a certain sound in my head that I have to "sing' it aloud sometimes.

Yeah, I mimic the "clicking" noise the Geckos around here make, albeit, I sound more like Skippy [the televised Kangaroo], but O well. I also mimic noises and sounds in relation to things I'm interested in; I do this often, and I do do it around others.

I'm guessing that it's echolalia, as how is it any different to repeating a phrase (they're both noises, and both can be construed as non-communicative speech by outsiders)?

I mimic sounds all the time (provided I'm not in public), not just animal but whirring sounds like electric motors, washing machine, coffee percolator, thunder all sorts - if it's humanly possible I have a go like that guy on the police academy films. A relative once heard me in another room and thought I'd got one of those sound synthesisers as I was amusing myself one day making all different noises (I was young at the time - around 35 Very Happy ) It was a little embarrassing that they'd heard me.

Oh so it's not just me?

also does anyone repeat phrases/noises from movies tv shows etc. I have a habit of making that wobbling noise like Dr zoiberg on futerama lately Embarassed

I think the social echolalia thing is a coping mechanism though. I can't help becoming the person I am talking to either. I find it funny though if they don't like me because I can't help but imiate so much that they don't realise they must be hating themselfs! (mmm if that makes sence?)

My 4 year old daughter mimics our two dogs all day, and also makes a siren noise, oh, and also a very loud tiger (she is currently being assessed for AS

I usually take on the characteristics of the person I am talking to, it can be embarrassing as sometimes I think they may have noticed that my laugh sounded just like theirs did. It seems to happen automatically

My Aspie friend mimicks birdsong, but not usually with his voice. He's a pianist. When he hears some creature warbling the same song over and over outside his window, he'll go to the piano and play the same series of pitches. It drives the birds buggo.
