How are you going to do damage control on this? (contact the bank immediately to freeze the card and its account before the thief cracks the pin number)

What did you learn?

How are you going to keep this from happening again?

...I have E-mailed the ATM card company , I don't really have their phone number and its not put out by a bank .
I live in a cruddy SRO .
Right aft6er it happened , when i was washing up to go out , someone came to my door saying he'd found the card , " someone who'd taken it had tried to pass it off on him " , but " he wanted a reward , was there any money left in it " , I said I had no cash - true - and said the card might've been frozen already - maybe not prrecisely true - .
It's a likely large percentage of all the " official " cash I'll get this month .

am know of one support staff this happened to,her debit card was stolen and used to pay for stuff from tesco, she got the money back off the bank,-does own bank have something like this to help those who are stolen from?

maybe something good will come out of this, like this thief getting knocked to the floor for trying to steal off someone stronger than themself.

Email can be too slow to stop a card thief from using the account. In the future, keep the issuer contact info ready for immediate use!

What's an SRO?

What are the odds this guy is telling the truth? To me this sounds like he's the one who took it, and now he wants a "reward" for returning a frozen card he couldn't use, as a last ditch effort to get something out of you.

...Also , my two attempted E-mails got returned undelivered .
HOWEVER , I am afraid that there's no point trying to do ANYTHING on the Sunday ( or any day of ) a holiday weekend , I'll just have to wait until tomorrow .
Before the theft happene , I had made a purchase from Amazon.Com using the ATM , now , the purchase has gone fully through and the balance , in the daily balance they send to me , it what it would be -the purchase , so , I assume there's been no cracking...

You need to go to the police (and they are around on weekends) Prime suspect is the guy that came to you door. That is blackmail anyway.

What credit company do you use?

TransUnion,etc?

Call them, tell them your account number and freeze your account.

Believe me it works!

All debit cards have a 24-7 phone # you can call, I wouldn't wait to call them, pins can be cracked in some cases, people have been known to write the pin on the back of the card, which is very helpful to the crooks
