|

Every now and then I flick the first two fingers of my left hand. It's like a walking motion, but rapid, and the fingers brush together slightly. I do it when I'm thinking hard, or agitated trying to find something in a hurry ( like my car keys ). I somehow never realized that I even did this (stimming?) until a few weeks ago. Even when I first started reading about AS, I thought I didn't do any stimming, but I found myself doing this. It doesn't feel natural to do it with my right hand.
But I realized I do a different kind of hand flapping with my right hand. I like to flap my right hand against an object, usually the steering wheel. I hit the steering wheel rapidly with my open hand between my thumb and other fingers. Rarely I can do it on the edge of a table. I can't do it just in air. I can't do it with my left hand.
Wierd I stim differently with each hand, huh? ...and never even knew I stimmed or flapped at all! |

Yes, I do this with both hands, but not frequently. I also sometimes rub my thumb across the tips of the first three fingers of my hand, like some rich movie caricature fondling money (this usually when I'm walking, or occasionally when standing). _________________ "Maybe the ones who have it easy are missing part of the adventure."

I flicker my fingers a lot, even on my forehead and look from the corner of my eye, idk y though lol. I also flap on things too, sorta obsessed with my hands, love opening and closing them, flapping them on stuff, flicker the fingers and flapping in the air, etc... _________________ Dxed Classic Autism(moderate to severe as a child, now moderate to high functioning as an adult) & Dxed Tourette Syndrome...

I do the same thing - finger flicking, brushing the fingers together as if I'm tapping an invisible button. I also wear a lot of rings on both hands and I often click them together because I like the sound. When I wear long sweaters, I'll pull the sleeves over my hands and flap them in the air when I think nobody's looking. They look like a pair of spastic, woolen snakes. _________________ Terminal Outsider, rogue graphic designer & lunatic fringe. |

| I sometimes do "air piano," more or less. Sometimes it's when I'm listening to something and trying to figure out how one would play it (as I have played for 13 years now), sometimes it's stress relief and sometimes because I'm bored and have nothing to do with my hands. Thankfully most people don't seem to notice, or at least they don't care enough to bother me about it. |

I'm pretty much constantly flicking my fingers. I love playing tunes on things.
I always tap my two mouse buttons. If not that, then I'm tapping the computer table, or often my face, on my cheek, or mouth. |

| My stim is rapidly flicking my fingers - I do it when I'm thinking very hard, or extremely disgusted. When I 'disappear into my mind', it happen. I simply cannot achieve the deep thought required of reading, writing, creating a scenario in my mind etc. without doing it. It emerged strongly around the time I started reading. I used to do it on my nose, but that attracted a ton of attention, so now I usually do it with my hands tucked under my armpits - sometimes people ask if I'm cold because it looks like I'm shivering, but it's mostly unnoticeable. The only people who know about it are my parents and the kids who bullied me about it when I still did it very visibly. |

Finger wiggling is my stim.
I wiggle my middle fingers so that my whole hand flaps straight out, especially when I'm thinking or looking for something. I tap an invisible beat with my hands as well, my left one keeping the beat and my right one doing the tempo. I play piano or keyboarding often in my mind.
I also tap my middle fingers and thumb together, or rub them sometimes. Or alternate finger touching. I also rub my knuckles against my forehead when I'm upset, or trying hard to keep from having a meltdown when I'm overstimulated. (mainly noise)
I can't think at all unlesss my middle finger and thumb are tapping each other. It seems to be automatic.
When I'm scared, or mad, or really really stressed and headed towards meltdown.. then I flap with my whole hands rapidly. |

I sometimes put my hand almost flat on the tabe (or some other object in that height), with my palm slightly in the air and my fingertips touching the surface and then I flap my thumb fast. I think I only do this with my right hand.
I also sometimes put my elbow on the table and keep the rest of my hand pointed up and flap it by turning my wrist fast. I do this with either hand.
Other than that, I think I mostly stim with my feet or by rocking back and forth. |

I do that sort of thing all the time.
Ever since I got the Guitar Hero and then Rock Band games I find myself flicking my fingers and then consciously alter my normal finger flicking and tapping into impromptu jam sessions with myself.
It also gives me an excuse if someone comments why I am sitting there wiggling my fingers in the air.
I also use the air piano excuse for my double handed finger wiggling.
Maybe that is really why I like those games so much. They are basically games of patterned finger stimming. |

| I've been known to flick my fingers on occasion. My bigger stim now is using my hand like a puppet when I'm talking. I even do it when I'm not talking. |
