I feel very... empty. Listless. Without focus. Isolated. Lonely. Distant.
I've got nothing to do. I'm just sitting around here at home, with nothing to do.
I feel like Major Tom in David Bowie's Space Oddity:
| Quote: | For here am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I've passed one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much
She knows
Ground Control to Major Tom, you're circuit's dead,
there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you--
Here am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do...

A job would help, I know; it would give me focus, a raison d’ętre, and I wouldn't be having this problem. But no luck with that so far. _________________ What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness that gives everything its value.

Read, write, draw, exercise, take a walk around town. If you can post to this site, you have a box that connects you to the entire planet. The more you move around, the better you'll feel. Clean the house from top to bottom, you might find something cool you thought you'd lost. _________________ "I don't mean to sound bitter, cynical or cruel - but I am, so that's how it comes out."

I agree with Willard - I go to charity shops and buy old computer stuff (they'd sell it for $5 for stuff they can't get to work, which is usually why it ends up there) and fix them and make them work again - then make them do something useful.
If you're into computers, this might be something you could do. Even better - if you want to have a devel server, but don't have the dough for a dedicated box, and you can get access to cheap old hardware, set them up in a network and use distcc for the compiler Or perhaps use them to learn how to do clustering (setting up multiple machines to look like one big one)... whatever takes your fancy - the sky's the limit.
Whatever you choose to do - occupy yourself with a hobby. And when you wear it out, start another one. _________________ We are one, we are strong... the more you hold us down, the more we press on - Creed, "What If"

I totally know how you feel. I'm having the exact same problem.. I was fired from my job, and thought I hated it, I see that it helped me get up every day and do something. Now that I don't have one, and searching for a new one is going so badly, I feel awful every day and I just don't know what to do with myself.
I hope things start looking up for you. |
